Friend's PC is having performance issues, poor performance in Skyrim and Binding of Isaac

Here's his Speccy:

He said it just one day started having slow performance in these games (he only plays those). Basically imagine horrible log. Skyrim is barely playable, Isaac is slow.

The CPU was at 800MHz axesmiley.png ...I went into to Bios and disabled AMD Cool And Quiet, now it says 3200MHz and his performance is better. Wow lol.

lol...yeah it said it was running at x4 2100mhz in that info you sent....thumb.gif

good time to turn it up a notch or 2 wink.gif

but c&q should be able to be enabled and it still speed up when a load is put on it...might want to give everything a good once over in the bios
maybe bios somehow got reset and needs to be optimized again

Heh, I didn't even scroll that far down to see that. It actually shows 4*200FSB if you look close enough, so 800Mhz would be right. Not sure why it shows 2100Mhz for the rated speed. Must be the next C-state rating. 800 being the lowest, 2100 the next, etc.

And yes, that is just C*Q working like it should. It should downclock like that when not in use. Unless it isn't clocking up to the full speed once the game loads, it shouldn't be affecting it. I'd try running some monitoring software while the game is running and see if it is ramping up to full clock speed. Though, if his problems are fixed by disabling it, and he doesn't care about it always being at full speed, then I guess I would just leave it.

i bet the bios got reset somehow....i'd go through all of it and tune things up

matter of fact...rams running at 666 and it's 1600mhz ram...everything has been set to fail safe settings wink.gif

Ram downclocks too with C-states/C&Q enabled. Shouldn't be an issue as long as it, and CPU speed, is ramping back up when the game loads. But like I said, if it is working now and he doesn't care for it being at full speed and using extra power, I'd leave it.

it won't change ram multiplier...it's set at 1333 and the ram is rated at 1600
it would be worth the time to go through and set everything where it should be set...bet if you ask him there was a brown out or some kind of surge thumb.gif

Probably have to use the X.M.S. profile to get it to pick up, or set the speeds manually if that doesn't work.

CnQ is probably not working properly (i.e. throttling when not supposed to), in which case then you might wish to turn it off.  Usually if it is left on it provides no impact on performance as it adjusts so the CPU performs as needed.  Did you check the OS "power plan" setting?

Yikes @ the MSI 870A-G54, you may want to hold off on using the 955 or any 125W processor on it as this board is known to fail with stock speed 125W processors due to VRM issues (read the link, "About VRMs & MOSFETs" in my sig) - this board statistically has the highest failure rate of any recorded failure-prone boards.  You should try and get your friend a new mobo.... that might not only fix this CnQ issue but it will also ensure system longetivity and not a fiery death that could occur with any stress teest.
