o didnt know thought it would be the same for all 939 boards. To me the vertical makes more sense because if they are horizontal it seems like a good portion of the weight would be riding on the chip.

You and me both. I just replaced my eVGA mobo that I managed to kill in what I consider a freak accident with a Ultra-D, only to find out that the mounting holes are left to right, which puts alot of strain on the tubing of my watercooling.
