Need some help figuring out why my memory is not running at rated speeds

Thread Starter
i currently have 3GB of DDR1 memory installed but it gets tricky here i have 2 sticks 1GB each of PC3200 (DDR400) and 2 512MB sticks of PC2700 (DDR333), But my motherboard refuses to run it at the rated speed of 333. When i mix these it runs at lowest speed the board supports PC1600 (DDR100). Now i don't know why because if i throw in 2 sticks of PC3200 256MB each along with thte 2GB of primary memory it runs fine at PC3200 and its reading all the ram 2.5GB. Any ideas?

What kind of an impact can i expect gaming wise (COD 4 and MW2 mostly).

Some if not most mobo BIOS lowers the RAM frequency to the minimum when you mix different RAM. This is because of the mismatched RAM. Unless there is a newer BIOS that might up the frequency some, you're stuck with what you have. I can't tell you how much effect it will have on gaming or the system operation. Only testing will tell.

i did test it and it made MW2 unplayable so i threw in the other 2 PC3200 sticks in and its much better now.
