eVGA 7900GTO - Any info? - Page 2

I dunno. your better off with a 7950gt. That memory speed is rather low. I mean nice core and all but cheap ram. Look for benches first

Some good news for anyone (and myself since I ordered one immediately from ZZF ) considering one of these babies. There was some misinformation concerning the memory speeds. According to EVGA's official PDF, the memory on the GTO is rated at 1.2ns or 800MHz, which means this thing is almost guaranteed to hit GTX clocks (and which would explain the overclock to 850MHz that I've seen). As for performance, it consistently beats a 7950 GT at stock settings:

http://www.hardware.fr/articles/639-...9-200-350.html

I don't need to say this but this card is a STEAL at $250 (less if you have a card to sell)!

The reps over at EVGA rated the 7900GTO above the 7950GT. The 7900GTO is the 7900GTX with clocked down memory. Some people reported 1.2ns on their 7900GTO which can be easily overclock to GTX speed. I'd get the 7900GTO if Evga recommended and they did over the 7950GT

Alot of people used to say 'wait for DX10' when this kind of question was asked.

Most people like me cant be bothered to wait, and would just buy a good card.

But why buy a new card now when DX10 is so close??

Because the DX10 cards are gonna be expensive. Its still not that close, itll be the first batch out meaning bugs probably. There are many reasons. I dont buy into DX10 i think its just another ploy to get consumers to empty bank accounts

Well I checked on the eVGA site and it has a big "HTCP enabled" sign over the 7950GT but not over the 7900GTO... oh well. I guess i'll get the 7900GTO then.

Because the first DX10 card is goign to use 250W, cost $650, and will be the biggest thing in my case. Even though DX10 is said to come out in November theres no games thats going to support it, no Vista, so it will be useless... in a way. Only thing it will be good for is to playing DX9,8,7, etc games with higher FPS.
