Will Z77 motherboards not be backwards compatible with Sandybridge CPU's ?

I'm looking at the chipset chart and it sure looks like Intel is out to screw the users again. While maintaining the LGA1155 socket, the CPU support for the new chipsets (Z77, Z75, & H77) doesn't look to include Sandybridge CPU's. Not the most promising bit of news.

Found what may be a more reliable source than anandtech's table.
It's an old Intel powerpoint slide via 3dguru.com & xfastest.com which says it includes support for Sandy Bridge CPU's.

well you found your answer, and yes IB z77 and others do support Sandy bridge cpus but you will lose some of the functionality of the board due to SB CPU limitations such as no PCIe 3.0 (the slots will run at PCIe 2.0) and native RAM support of upto 1600MHz as SB IMC supports upto 1333 RAM nativley before you must OC the RAM smile.gif

Nice find !

Well now I have an excuse to wait on buying a replacement motherboard (I suspect these'll be launched before ASRock ever completes my RMA).
