Will it bottleneck?

Hi there.

I was a lurker but joined to ask a question since everyone here is very helpful!

I like to ask if the PC that I'm currently building will bottleneck if I get a HD7970 or crossfire HD7970s. I was reading alot of the topics here on the 7970 and is rather worried that my build cant handle the GPUs. I am rather new at PC building so my knowledge is limited compared to you guys!

Here are my specs:

CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Corsair H80 92.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Black 750GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
SSD: Crucial M4 128GB 2.5" Solid State Disk
Power Supply: Corsair AX850 850W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 (64-bit)
Case: Corsair 650D

A few things to note,

- I will be overclocking the CPU to 4.5GHz
- The build is almost done, I'm just waiting to get the SSD and HD and as well for either the MSi TFIII or the ASUS DCUII be released (or should I get a reference 7970 and get an aftermarket cooler when they are released?).
- I will be overclocking the GPU as well

Thanks in advance for the advice!

only way a intel 2500k will bottlebock a 7970 is if it's put to single core state, there's been a test recently where intel only need a dual core with 4 threads to be plentyful enough for a 7970 in proccessing power when the proccessor is at stock speeds i believe. the Crossfire 7970 the 2500k at 4.5+ghz OC can diminish the so called bottleneck.

Bottlenecks are misunderstood. They could exist in one program and not in another. For example in starcraft yes your cpu will bottleneck you, but in battlefield it will not. A bottleneck is not a bad thing it by no means makes any part of your computer worse (unless it is a really big one) it simply means that one component is a limiting factor to another. And it depends on what you are doing at the time.
