How To RMA?

Thread Starter
So after an emourmous amount of troubleshooting and trying to find out why my computer wont boot & giving me the long beep + 3 beeps (no VGA detected) I've realized I'm pretty sure I need to RMA my motherboard....but what exactly do I do? I've contacted ASUS for tech support (email) and hadn't gotten anything back yet. Should I wait to hear something or what? Lol. I know alot of you guys go thru this process all the time so any help would be appreciated! thumb.gif

Also I had a another questions regarding it as well: Will I need a new copy of Windows 7 (I bought OEM) or should it boot fine since its the same mobo (once I RMA and get the new/refurb one)?

On the plus side my computer is completely dust free and I did an amazing cable management job with it! tongue.gif:D

It'll take a couple of days for you to receive a response (I emailed on a Friday, got a response on Monday). You can also call; make sure you have the board's serial number handy.

You won't need a new copy if I'm not wrong. You probably don't even need to reactivate. But in the event that you do, it's just a few minutes with the phone-activation system. smile.gif

^You actually do need to reactivate since it's a different motherboard. You will have to call Microsoft, explain the situation, and they will give you a new key.

You just have to use the automated service at Microsoft. Done it over a dozen times. You never actually talk to anyone. At least thats the easiest way.

Go to Asus website and create a login account right quick. Then login and find the option to RMA your product. Dont shoot an email and wait for a response. Setup an RMA, and the next email you will get will be with instructions, and an RMA number.

TBH Asus is not the smoothest company to RMA through. There website is rough, and slow, and make sure you follow all their instructions on the RMA list. They build their products pretty well so I guess they dont like it too much when they have to replace.

This is a much better response than mine. redface.gif

Thanks for the responses guys they've all helped! I'm definitely going to set up an account with ASUS while I'm here at work. Another question what will it be shipping the motherboard in? My box and all for it got disposed of when my wife was packing everything up when we moved lol. Will they send me a box or should I buy the stuff to ship? And what should I get if so?

You'll have to find a suitable box and be sure to pack the motherboard well. All you need to send is the motherboard.

I suppose a USPS medium flat-rate box will do just fine for the board. Make sure the socket cover is on and bubble-wrap the board before putting it in the box. If there's any space left over in the box, I'd fill it with packing peanuts. Perhaps others could chime in on the methods they used.

When you receive the RMA confirmation, there ought to be instructions.

You can get boxes/packaging material from any UPS store. You should, of course have the MB is an anti-static bag, with bubble wrap or packing peanuts. The box should be large enough to include the MB and around 2" of packing material.
