Only about 64 days have elapsed since Spotify announced it reached 2.5 million subscribers in November. That means 500,000 users have signed up to pay for the service in that time--or, from another perspective, a back-of-the-envelope calculation reveals that 7,000 to 8,000 users are subscribing to Spotify each day, on average. And remember: These are global statistics from a service that has been touted by the record labels and media, and boasts the powerful backing of Facebook's Open Graph.

Pretty cool that Spotify is expanding its subscriber base so quickly. If 20% of their users really are subscribers, that means 15m total users - very impressive?

Oh, and if I got the format wrong, I'm sorry. This is my first news post in quite a while. All of the other things I've wanted to post as news have been political lately.

I love, love, love Spotify. My only issue with it is bandwidth consumption. While playing a game with Spotify open, my ping will jump around like mad. I usually get a 70 ping in League of Legends, with Spotify running it jumps around constantly from 70-400. It's super annoying.

Isn't it $10 a month or something like that? No thanks. Pandora for the win.

I prefer Grooveshark, but I feel like I gave spotify it's fair shot. Missing tracks? Ok no big deal, it happens. Capped stream time without paying? Well, that's kinda lame. Audio ads in between songs? Buh-bye.

You don't have to pay though. If you subscribe you get stuff like offline playlists, no ads, etc... If you don't pay, you get a 10-20 second ad every 5-7 songs. Not really that bad. Also, you can actually choose what you want to listen to.

I've never had capped stream time, and I easily use the service for 5-6 hours a day, if not more. It's always on.

Crazy how Sean Parker the co-founder of Napster sits on the board of this. He somehow gets on everything that becomes huge....

Capped stream time? The only difference between paying and not paying is a short 10 or so second ad every 5~7 songs and no offline playlist for mobile devices.

That's pretty much what I thought. If you're an unpaid user, you just get advert breaks every so often. Far less frequently than when listening to the "real" radio?;

Spotify free has a monthly stream limit of about 20 hours. You can only play each song a maximum of 5 times and you get adverts every few songs.

However for the £10 a month I pay for Spotify Premium, I get unlimited streaming, offline playlists, no adverts, higher quality streaming and spotify mobile.

Its worth the money to me.

Exactly! Having Spotify mobile on my Android is worth it, especially with offline playlists. It makes the train and bus journeys far easier. I have been using Spotify since the very first day in the UK/EU, a good few years now. Going from unlimited free music to paying was not a bother to me as I'd rather still have a service like Spotify around than not having it. £5 for unlimited package or £10 for premium really is nothing for as much music as I want. And it's only getting better with new features being added.

I used Grooveshark for a while and hated it as for personal reasons the interface is sluggish and annoying.
