Need a lot of help overclocking my fx-8120 with UEFI BIOS

Thread Starter
I'm trying to overclock my AMD FX-8120 but most of the time, it wont boot and I just get a message saying overclock failed and I need to change it. My motherboard is an Asus M5A99X Evo. I've been really frustrated with this so I came here. From the AI Tweaker part of UEFI, what all do I need to change? And would somebody be able to give me a general range of what a good OC would be. I'm thinking I can get it up to 4.5Ghz with my Tuniq Tower 120. I was able to overclock it to about 4.3 yesterday, but it wasn't stable and was freezing in Windows. Thanks for any advice.

Welcome. I think you'll find considerable help by reading the long FX/Bulldozer Owner's thread below.

What cooler and vcore? The wall should b around 5ghz....with the right cooling and settings. Did u disable turbo, cool and quite, all that? If u give some more info on vcore and setting it would really help.

OK I think I figured it out for the most part. I haven't checked if it's stable yet, but I'm at 4.5Ghz at about 1.28v I think. Just booted up so I cant tell what the idle temp is yet, but now its at 37. gonna test in a minute

Ok so the first try froze up on prime95 at 8 threads after about 2 seconds. I raised the voltage up to about 1.35. I'm testing now at 4 threads. all good so far

Edit: ok now its starting to freeze and give me "possible hardware failures". What can I do to help this? Increase or decrease voltage? The majority of the workers give me errors like this

Oh and one more question. Am I supposed to change both the cpu manual voltage and cpu/nb manual voltage, or just the cpu one?

More vcore. Try 1.35, then 1.37 and 1.4 if that doesnt work. I would test at multi-22, host clock 200mhz. If its stable, turn the muti up 1. If not, more vcore. A little at a time. If you have access to a stablity test in the os like amds overdrive, then do this and run cinabench each time. Once you reach the max 1.4~1.42, run 95 for a hour. If it finishes, check temps. Amd says 60c, so u good below 70c atleast. Above say 4.8 or 5 ghz you might have to clock the chipset higher too. Walls round 4.8-5.2 ghz
