help with silverstone ft02b with window- want it to be more silent

Thread Starter
hey you guys,

i have a silverstone ft02 with a window and its great, it keeps all my components really cool and i am surprised at actually how little dust is inside of it( keep in mind though, i clean it maybe every 2 or 3 weeks). however, since the computer is on my desk and is about 2 or 3 feet away from me, i can hear the fans whizzing around in there. i've tried all i can think of to keep it quiet:

replaced both 6870's stock fans with gelid icy vision rev.2 for quiet cooling there,
i5 2500k has hyper 212+ with push/pull on it(don't know if this keeps it quiet).

i have set the bottom 3 fans to high though(i don't really want to change this either, since i really do like how my case is really cold). is there anything else i can do to make it quieter without spending to much money?

when i place my ear to the case i think i hear most of the noise coming from the single fan at the top of the case, should i replace it?

thanks

Have you thought of getting a manual fan controller and hooking everything up to it?

I've got my FT02B-W about 10 inches away from me on my desk and can barely hear it. I keep the AP181 fans at 60% from my fan controller though, and everything stays a chilly 19-22°, ambient is about 21°. Having your fans on low won't effect the cooling too much, mine doesn't even show a difference, great thing about having 3*180mm fans pushing a wall of air straight up, it's always moving no matter what. And the AP-181's can get pretty loud at full speed. Also have an H80 right now with 2 Cougar CF-V12H fans at 50%, and 2 560 ti's at stock speeds.

So my suggestion, switch the AP-181's to low.

golfball fans? umm i got my case about a month ago, so im pretty sure it came with the new fans for the bottom, if thats what you mean. i just set the fans to low and it did reduce the sound but i can still hear it. anything else i can do?

i took pics by the way, so maybe anyone can critque me on things i need to fix? a fan controller? is it worth it?

this is the top with fans set to high, changed it to low after this pic. i think i still hear things from this fan...

any way to make this better with airflow and make it more silent?
450

the bottom fans, i don't know if they are the "golfball fans", sorry.

Only the top 120mm is the golfball fan ( has small craters in it if you look at the blades ).

You could also get new fans for your CPU cooler, those look like the stock CM ones.

oh thats what you mean by golfball fan, then yes the top fan is a golfball fan. it has weird indents on the blades.

one of the fans on the hyper 212+ is stock(came with the 212), the other i bought online on newegg, but that one is also a cooler master fan. should i replace both with better fnas? any suggestions?

Take off the top fan and see how it affects your temperatures, Since there is no grill the hyper 212 should push air out the top of the case.
And it is free.thumb.gif
Post temps before and after please. Make sure you take off the fan guard too.

Also do you have your heatsink fans being controlled by the motherboard?

ok guys, took off the top girll and did some testing with high and low settings for the bottom fan.

WITH GRILL:

low settings-
450

high settings-
450

WITHOUT GRILL:

low settings-
450

high settings-
450

i didnt see much of a difference in taking off the grill but my computer is considerably quieter then from when i started this thread ( switched fan settings to low, took off grill) thanks everyone!!

however, would buying new fans for my hyper 212 make it even quieter? also, yes i use the motherboard for fan control, should i use something else?
