Tell me guys 3930k or 980X - Page 3

Keep everything you have and just upgrade the video cards. One of the few reasons why you want a 6-core is for content creation like transcoding/encoding and rendering.

Even though, if I had the choice, I would choose two 7970's on X58 over SB-E and a single card, the boost would be greater. Besides, the 980x is not a slouch, not at all. It could push two 7970's easy.

How is 1366 not dead?

I don't notice much difference between my 1366 and 1155 system. There won't be any more new CPUs made for 1366 but it is still very viable. In the context of gaming, of course.

despite what others might say, the 980x is still a monster, a bit delicate with voltages, but my watercooled 980x performs top notch

definitely option 2.

Definitely go with option 2. That's a pretty good price on a 980X and the performance difference between that and the 3930K are not that large. What is large though is between one and two 7970.

If all you do is game, save yourself 150Eur and get a 3500k which will yield better gaming performance due to most games not scaling beyond four cores and its superior IPC and over clock headroom.

Not to mention, an x8/x8 board will only cost you $150... Selling your GENE III will pay for it.

Really a nice upgrade... Really...

I wouldn't even upgrade from what he has with the next 1000$ CPU. Performance increase will only be on paper. He will never be able to see the difference if he's only gaming.
