Laptop Size decision

Currently looking at these two barebone MSI models.

15.6"
http://www.xoticpc.com/force-16f2012-msi-16f2-p-3376.html

17.3"
http://www.xoticpc.com/force-1761-msi-1761-p-3152.html

I can't decide, both have almost exact features of one another but only have a $50 swing.

I was looking at those laptops myself. I think if its never/rarely going to leave the house, the 17" is the way to go. I opted for a 15.6" Clevo P151HM mainly because I wanted the sager brand, and I couldn't afford the options I wanted on the 17" model. That and I sensed some travel for work coming up and I just found out I was right. LOL

Are you looking at these because of price to performance ratio? If your budget allows, Sager/Clevo make a great computer as well, but at a higher price, and the Sagers have a cooling fan for the cpu and each gpu configured in the laptop.

As for your question, I believe the 17" has an option for a Steelseries keyboard that comes with the "MSI" branded ones if you care about that. But, my vote goes for 17" either way though, I had a 17" laptop back a few years and loved the size and I carried a 17" for work, loved the size, except when I had to travel with it. So just keep that in mind while you're deciding...

It definitely makes for a better experience USING the laptop, but it will be heavier, and overall larger.

Hope this helped in some way.

Well, I have been thinking that a 17.3" would be my choice after it's all said and done. But as far as brand/maker goes, you just can't beat Xotic's Force series. I know for sure I want something more powerful than a GTX460/560m. So I guess this would be my requirements:

17.3" 1920x1080 Matte LED Screen
GTX 570M or better
8GB DDR3
NO HD

Everything else is moot. I just want good guts. biggrin.gif Enough to play BF3 at or around 50 FPS.

If you're still looking at the MSI's the bigger one would be better, just because it would handle the heat better, a bigger screen is also nicer.
Keep in mind this does increase the physcical size (obviously) and weight.
But if you don't mind spending a bit more you could get a better laptop for $1200ish at xotic PC.

Looks like a good laptop for the money though! thumb.gif

I'd go with that but maybe the 2630M? It's only 300mhz slower.
And maybe a bit better video card? thumb.gif

Well the 2630WM is OOS, and the only GPU upgrade is the GTX580m which is a $400 upgrade.

Just saw that! Yeah, keep the 570 and get the 2670M, i'd also suggest a second hard drive. Unless you plan to get that from somewhere else yourself? If so get 2x 640's and raid them. (better performance and they run cooler then a 7200 RPM). With the processor upgrade he gets free IC Diamond which i was going to suggest anyway! thumb.gif

8GB of 1600 or 12GB of 1333/1600. 12GB would be a good upgrade if it's being used for more then gaming (Photoshop, video editing etc).
Blu Ray if you want/need it, upgrade the wireless card to the one with Bluetooth (This is really useful). - The Intel 6230.

A spare charger is always a good buy, beats having one die on you then having to get multiple dodgy third party replacements.. (My friend borrows my charger all the time)
