Well, I just got back from burn testing my sons new rig, and let me tell you he has a heck of a machine for what was paid for it. This is the cheapest that i have ever been able to build a rig.

Here are the Specs:

Athlon II x3 455 (Unlocked and Overclocked to Phenom II B55 - 4 cores 3.66 GHZ) - $74.99

GF615M-P33 MiniATX AM3 Mainboard - $49.99

Generic Case and 650 Watt Power Supply - $1.99 (Yes, One Dollar and 99 cents, looooong story)

Crucial BLS4G3D1339DS1S00 Ballistix - 4GB, PC3-10600, DDR3-1333MHz - 17.99

Sony Optiarc AD7280S-OB 24x DVDRW Drive - 24x, SATA - $17.99

Galaxy 24GFF8HX2PMU GeForce GT240 Video Card - 512MB DDR3 - $19.99 (after $20 MIR)

Windows 7 Ultimate on 500 GB Sansung HDD (part of a three pack I bought earlier) - $ 0.00

Total Cost - $182.94

Actually it was $202.94 out of pocket, the mail in rebate drops the cost. For under 200 dollars, let me see anyone beat this rig.

Sure, here is the story.

I go into my local CompUSA at least once a week to check on pricess, see the new tech, etc (it is like a Toys R Us, for grownups)., So I have made friends with the sales people, managers, etc.

I knew that i was going to upgrade my son's system when my taxes caome back this year, so I went to CompUSA to do some window shopping. I saw an Ultra Gladiator case for 50% off, which meant it was only 20 dollars instead of 40. I have used Ultra products in the past, and while no top of the line, they tend to be a good value for the price.

I saw Steve, the sales manager, coming over to say hello and I asked him to get a ladder to get the case off the top shelf. He asked if I was looking for a case or if I was buying it just because ti was on sale. I told him "a little bit of both". He said "Well, have I got a deal for you!"

We went to the back of the store to look for a specific pallet After about half an hour we gave up looking for it and he apologized for wasting my time. I told him it was not a problem and went back to get my Ultra case.

I was just about to ask for help to get it down when Steve came back and said "I've found them!"

We went to a differnt part of the sotre and there was a pallet of about 10 computer cases. we opened them up and the first one had cracked side panel. Then second one had a scratch on the top of the case. The third one we tried was missing covers for the expansion bays. Small problems that are easily remedied. Oh, the all had power supplies in them. He told me that they were non-returnable, no guarantees, etc. I figured worst-case I was out 8 dollars.

He said $1.99 and you can have one. I said, can I have four? So, I got four cases for $7.96. I took them home and tested all the power supplies, all working. I took parts from on case to rebuild all three and they look good!.

You are running a very good chance of cooking that motherboard by unlocking and overclocking that chip. That mobo is in this list, btw.

He could always use some olde heatsinks and some AS5 adhesive and glue them down to the FETs smile.gif

Anyway, that was one heck of a deal, yes Sir.thumb.gif

Unlock and you run the risk of cooking that mobo, low end failure-prone VRM system should not be used with 95-125W TDP quads.... failure prone-ness on low end MSI boards is common.
