Not to say P67/Z68 and X79 are bad, but they certainly didn't impress anyone with their features.

x79 is a great chipset. P67/Z67 are mainstream boards, why should they impress? People seem to forget that even though SB is newer than NHM, and mobo manufacturers are putting out "enthusiast" boards for it, its not actually an enthusiast targeted cpu.

X79 features 2 SATA 6 Gbit/s ports and 4 3 Gbit/s ports. Even AMD's 990FX chipset, paired with, let us say, not so spectacular CPUs, features SATA 6 Gbit/s only. X79 could've been far, far more. It's little more than P67/Z68 with another socket.

Still, X79 is by no means a mainstream chipset. It's an enthusiast/work station chipset, and fails to deliever some of the juicy bits one could, and should, expect from a chipset of this tier.

Yeah, Haswell will be my next upgrade, to go in line with my 3 year upgrades. My i5-760 has been doing me well since I got it a year ago and everything's been running quite smoothly. Sure I don't have SATA III right now, but I do have USB 3.0 via a 4-port PCI-e 1x hub, so when I do get a new external drive case that has USB 3.0, I'll be ready for it. Don't really care for the integrated graphics part, but hey, 6 cores will be quite awesome!

Also Thunderbolt is suppose to become standard on Haswell, so that'll be a huge plus, since I might get that Seagate TB SATA dock for their external HDD line since it's just standard SATA connections to go along with my new MBP I'll be getting this summer with Ivy Bridge.

The bad thing about this is that Intel is doing another socket change, this time to LGA1150, but at least 1156 and 1155 cooling will still work. Don't know why they can't just stick with the same socket, like LGA775. That lasted from the Pentium 4's to the last Core 2's released in 2009.

i will keep my Lynnfield proc. that is all.

unless haswell makes SB look like a tyco RC car next to a minivan.
