Seriously.
My PM gives you a lot of advice already though, but once SoC gets there, bump this thread, and we'll all give ya more advice.
Oh, and Labs X16 and X18 totally ROCK. Droogie is just playing. I hope, anyways.

Of course they rock. Especially alone at 3am while wearing headphones. They kind of define the game for me, but while you're in there, you want to cry lol.
In progress.

All that's involved in activating most mods for Stalker is to copy the mod contents into a 'gamedata' folder under the main Stalker install folder. Then, you make a tiny change to your main cfg file, just switching a 'false' to a 'true' (basically telling the game to 'look in' the gamedata folder for a mod and use it, if there).

But there should be a readme in the mod download that'll tell ya all this.

If you have Complete activated, it'll be real obvious as the games main menu looks totally different (it'll say 'Complete' in big letters right on the menu there).

What to expect?

To be absolutely GOBSMACKED with the sheer awesomeness of the visuals.

Then have no expectations other than to get completely PWNED on a regular basis. f5 is your friend and reloads are free. thumb.gif

Keep lots of bandages, sausage, vodka and rad meds on hand at all times. Once you start weighing yourself down with these find places to stash them and stash what you won't need so you can carry back all the loot. cool.gif

Oh and I did play CoP first. Didn't ruin anything for me because SoC is a completely separate experience. I do rec playing either SoC or CS before CoP though, primarily to stay current with the events when playing CoP. biggrin.gif

Figures you'd play 'em in the wrong order, cause you're a friggin Niner fan tongue.gif

And there's no way you can positively say it didn't 'ruin anything for you' ... when you never played 'em in the proper order to begin with.

To whit: was the first time you EVER saw a Bloodsucker or a Controller in the dark, claustrophobic and creepy confines of the first underground Stalker dungeon you'd ever been in, i.e. the Agroprom Underground? No!

Was your first encounter with a Snork in the even more creepy confines of the 2nd underground Stalker dungeon you'd ever been in, only moments after you encountered your first ever Poltergeist-type Stalker creature? No!

There's no way the cool underground lab scares in SoC aren't going to be drastically diluted by the fact that you've dealt with all the critters before, multiple times, in one of the other games. And none of the others introduce the critters in NEARLY as cool of a way as SoC does.

Also, SoC is lacking in some niceties that the other two have like weapon/armor upgrades, quick travel, etc. So if you play the others first, you'll notice these features are absent, and it'll probably bug ya. If you never seen 'em, then you get 'em in the later games, they're a welcome addition instead of a sad subtraction from your Stalking.

But AFA the story goes, I suppose it doesn't really matter all that much.

Actually YES, I can say that it didn't ruin anything for me. I got CoP first with the purchase of my MB and CPU. So OF COURSE, I played it first. Didn't even have Steam until I got CoP. wink.gif

Also I play them just cause I enjoy them. I never had any major expectations going into this series so, yeah I'm sure it didn't ruin anything for me. I hardly make comparisons from one or the other, I think that if anything nitpicky I can think of is the lack of sleeping. In fact I enjoy catching up on the storyline. I'm a Star Wars purist so out of order makes no nevermind to me so long as I get the back story at the end of the day. thumb.gif

Raider fans should not make fun of 9er fans. Too much success on right side of the Bay to snicker and point fingers. tongue.gif lol

"Stalker" is the perfect difficulty for a first run I think. If that's too tough, use the easiest for a little while, then bump it up to Stalker once you get a scoped gun.

Oh , really? On my first playthrough of SoC i played Oblivion Lost from start to finish at Master difficulty because im a *cough*Glorious PC Gamer*cough* tongue.gif. Challenge? I HOOT AT THEE!

I am currently doing my second runthrough of SoC with stalker soup(which i highly recommend) on Master difficulty and MY GOD it made OL and LURK look like having the difficulty of children playing in the sand.

Stalker Soup... oh you mean " Narodnaya Solyanka".

I still need to give this one a go, how hard was it to install? I know for a long time it was a difficult mess because it was all in Russian.

Meh ... I'll take our offense (with a healthy McFadden) over you guys offense any day (although Davis is BEAST!).

Now ... defensively ... you guys are SICK, I'll give ya that. I was rooting for the 49er's in the playoffs btw ... my love for my erstwhile home of the Bay Area (live in AZ now but I'm 'from' Walnut Creek) transcends petty football rivalry. The Bay was overdue for some football glory .. I wish Ted Ginn hadn't gotten hurt, as his replacement's screw-ups was almost certainly the difference in the game.

But don't talk about your team's 'success', you guys hadn't made the playoffs in just as long as us until this year. And you hadn't made noise in the P.O.'s at all for a lot longer before that (at least we had the Chuckie years and made the SB in 2002 season).

AFA what you 'missed' ... you are of course free to 'say' what you want, and believe likewise thumb.gif But I firmly believe the large majority of people will enjoy the series the most overall if they play SoC first, for a whole bunch of reasons. Whether you play CS or CoP next is less important.

I do agree that the experience CAN be better when played in order of release(SoC, CS, CoP) but I don't agree that that's how it's gotta be played to get the full effect. The Zone is a living entity after all and the Zone will mete out your experiences as the Zone sees fit. It's pretty much in how you approach it anyway. If you're easily bored, doing it my way may leave one with some dissatisfaction.

As far as 9ers v. Raiders goes, the Raiders have a long ways to go to be as Successful a Franchise as the 9ers have been since they came into the NFL. Even before the current Playoff System and Super Bowl era came into play. 9ers were playing for a few Titles long before the Raiders were on the concept table. thumb.gif

I used to be a 9ers/Raiders fan. Started rooting for both when I was 9. As kids do I had an NFC/AFC team I cheered for. Been to the Colleseum a number of times before there was EVER a "Black Hole".

But then Davis decided LA was the place to be. He wanted a new Stadium and that as they say is that as far as my allegiance to the Commitment to Excrement went. The Krypt Keeper showed me that the business side of things didn't give a spit about the fans. That's fine. I still had a team to cheer for and if I'm thankful to the Raiders for anything, it's that it made me a better fan and drove me headlong into playing the game and having an appreciation for what those guys do on the field. Bill Walsh cemented it though. I been a fan of the 9ers since '78 and a fan of the NFL even longer. As military brats often are. thumb.gif
