Firming Up The Event

Now that we are getting close to the numbers we are looking for, we will begin to finalize the venue/date. This will include another tour of the venue, confirming power and internet connectivity etc. This should be completed by mid-next week.

Please keep the support coming though! We still need more people!

Sponsorship

In terms of sponsorships, we already have a few major companies contacting us about this event. Not sure exactly what we will do from this perspective as we are really doing this for you guys :) If you are someone who wants to sponsor this event, and talk about ways to do it to add value to the event itself, please email me - admin @ overclock.net.

Being Canadian / Attracting Canadians

In terms of being Canadian, our roots are absolutely that ! :) www.Overclock.ca. Our #3 country, in terms of visitation, is from the great white north. We are more than happy for enthusiasts from other communities to attend. As long as you are a good-hearted person who loves tech, you should fit in perfectly :)

Next Steps

We will be putting up a thread in the next week with exact details on the event and how to reserve your space for it. We will also, most likely, have a dedicated site for the event(s) at GrandChampion.com (we are calling it the Overclock.net Grand Champion Series).

Thanks again guys! Keep the support coming!

Aww. :(

@Admin, forgot to VPN in. Email should be there now.

Also, you will have at least 10 people from canadian-gamers.ca in attendance for the Lan Party.

Have them sign in and and vote, that makes it easier to get a head count.

What sort of security is there for hardware at events like this? I ask because I've heard some serious horror stories from friends who have attended large-scale LAN's like this.

Two paid security guards during the entire time.

What type of horror stories have you heard before?

Thefts, mostly. Stuff that couldn't be stolen was vandalized (for example, someone locked their mouse to their case by running it through a padlock, and the mouse cord was cut). There's also always the threat of hacking, whether over the network or by trying to access unattended computers.

As an unrelated question, how much physical space are we looking at? I might have an evaporative cooler built by then that I might want to show off.
