AMD 1100T Thuban Build

338

So a few weeks ago I started to build an FX BD gaming computer, but in using it I really wasn't impressed. I had to go back to the drawing board and see what I could salvage in order to make a computer a bit better performing. I didn't really want to go back to Intel, I really wanted to give AMD a chance. So I decided to go back a generation and grab the wonderful Thuban Phenom II Processor. I was going to create my new computer under this earlier generation AMD wonder and give them one last chance to impress me. So I was off to Newegg to order some different parts and create a new build.

Specs:

Case: Corsair Carbide 400r received

CPU: AMD Phenom II x6 received

Motherboard: Asus Crosshair V received

Cooling: Corsair H100 received

GPU: HIS IceQ 2GB HD 6970 received

RAM: 2x G.Skill RipJawsZ 8GB (2x4GB) 1600MHz received

HDD: Western Digital 1TB 7200 RPM (64MB Cache) received

HDD: Samsung 830 SSD 64GB received

PSU: Corsair HX750 Professional received

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 received

Just as an FYI, the chip is called Thuban, not Thurban. smile.gif

I really liked my 1100T while I had it. Unfortunately I really needed the single-thread performance for things like FSX, hence the 2500K...

Those Phenoms are fun to overclock. Wish I had watercooling when I had that chip.

I was using the FX-8120, don't get me wrong its not a terrible chip, but just not what I was expecting. Its not until we have some much better multithreaded software will we ever see a true increase in performance.

i dont really wann absh it but imo its a horrible chip(fx-8120)
i builded one for my father in law with that chip and took it with me for a day to put it in my system to check it out as i whas thinking its newer so should be better.
i compared it to my 1100t at stock speeds and the bd on stock speeds.
in all benches the scores where higher with the 1100t in my system.
dont have copys of it so cant prove it but believe me, the 1100t will perform better then a 8120
could be that the bd didnt like my mobo as it isnt a 990chipset on my mobo but i know i will pass; and wait for pile driver or go to the darkside:p

edit: only thing diff in the benches ive done whas the chip.
same mobo,ram,psu,gpu etc

I can agree with you, thats why I am switching to the older generation. Apparently AMD just didn't get it fully right with this FX Chip which is very sad to say the least!

Cool, I have the 1100T myself, OC's to 4.2 Ghz (thats average, you might get one to go higher but don't count on it). It has good performance, on games that use to the CPU more I saw a 20 fps jump in GTA iV from 40 fps to 60 fps 1920x1200 most settings maxed from my 955 BE. I haven't used BD yet I'm waiting on the revision, you might have been better served waiting a couple of months as well. But if you have the funds whty not 1100T you'll get awesome performance on everything with your 6970. Also I was going to be getting a crosshair IV when you get your CPU oc could you drop a post on your NB and FSB speeds I wanted to kno how much more performance I would get upgrading the MOBO. thumb.gif
