1,200 gaming PC budget, this is what I have so far. Good or bad? - Page 4

TBH, the twin frozr is the easiest to unlock only because there's a video guide out there specifically for it. 1Gb models cannot unlock and not future-proof for upcoming games that utilizes more vram such as BF3. I'm happy with my card, and have no regrets because the last thing I want is buyer's remorse rolleyes.gif

Look here, (should be on page 27).
The Asrock Z68 Extreme 4, Asus P8Z68-V Gen 3, Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H, or MSI Z68A-GD65 G3 are all very good boards and under $140 with the savings.
Also, do you plan to add another graphics card in the future? That would help with the PSU selection.

Ah, thank you so so much! I will look into that, because If I can save money that just makes things so much better. I know this is a silly question, but can you shop online there, and they mail it to you?

Think of it like an imaginary Chevy engine: it's like "unlocking" a V6 engine that has 2 pistons disabled to a V8 simply by changing the computer out. It's a gamble, as many cards do not "unlock". The Sapphire Toxic 6950 I listed was the last 6950 I knew of that could be "unlocked" to a 6970 most of the time.

I see, I kind of understand it. I did chuckle a bit at the fact you used engines as an example because I have no idea how cars / mechanical stuff works either. I know I know, I am helpless in so many ways, but I am glad I have people I can turn to that will try and help me to understand, like you! Thank you (:

$1,200 Build

Comes with:

2500K
EVGA GTX570
64GB SSD (Crucial M4)
Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3P
8GB Ripjaws X (4GBx2)
21" 1080p Asus Monitor

Grand Total: $906.91

Newegg is OOS of 2500K's so it's not in the cart. But once you add it, your grand total will be $1135.91

Keep in mind that total is without shipping. That will vary on where you live and such, if you want extended warranties and all that. Still gives you some cash to play with so you can add a bigger HDD for storage.

Hope this helps ya out. Definitely worth $1,200 compared to what you posted.. No offense smile.gif

Edit 2: You could also swap out that 570 for a 560 Ti 448 and shave some more cash off the total. Or possibly a 6950!

Edit: For some reason it didn't add the monitor to the cart, so with the monitor added you're looking at a little over $1,200 but after you mail off your MIR you will be under the $1,200 mark. thumb.gif

I live in Akron, but the thought of meeting someone or talking to them scares me a bit (Not saying you are scary, I am just 9001% anti-social and am stupidly awkward and weird and stuff, and get paranoid and I just made myself look like a spazzoid so I should stop now lmao) <3

Thank you for taking the time to put together something for me to take into consideration! I will look at this all, and compare with other things. And you did not offend me at all, I really appreciate you / everyone helping me out and giving me opinions / options to look over. <3

sorry to thread jack, but i bought an msi twin frozr II 2gb card in november, one month after i bought my first one (unlocked) the second and third one however didn't unlock...this is after i bricked the 2nd one and returned it the same day saying "i dunno what happend to it, it was working" got home with the 3rd card and didn't even think about unlocking it for fear of bricking it again.
i could be wrong but I think the non referenced cards are locked down now.

anywho back to OP's post, stay with what you got with exception to the gpu, ram, and mobo. look for a p67 or z68 if you can (asus or gigabyte) and upgrade ram to 8 and vid to a 560ti 448.

good luck and we wanna see your final build! and FTW <3 thumb.gif
