Upgrade from a 5850

So I have a question, should I upgrade my 5850 to a 6970 (since they are quite cheap now) or wait for the 7950 (that I probably won't be able to get) or 7870

Wait for the 7950, if the 6970 is alot cheaper than it is now when it releases then get that.

I agree. 6970 isn't a huge upgrade from a 5850 imo. 7950 would be nice biggrin.gif

I went from a reference sapphire HD 5850 to crossfire HD 7970's. It was a slap in the face of a speed increase smile.gif. I don't think a 6970 is a worthy upgrade over a 5850. I was running my 5850 at 1000 mhz core and I was seeing a huge increase over the stock 725mhz core speed. If you haven't overclocked, then most certainly do it and unleash the 5850 thumb.gif. If that speed isn't enough for you then get a 7950 or 7870, both will be nice cards that overclock great! Good luck on the decision

Yeah, I wish I could afford a 7970 but alas no.

+1 to all of you for the help. I think I'll wait and see what the 7950 can do smile.gif

We already know its as fast or faster than a 580. In cfx, it blows a 580 sli away.
