what fluid do you use in your loop

Thread Starter
so ive been having some ideas popping around in my head and now im thinking about modding my corsair h50 making me 1 step closer to a water loop. i get the basics of how to build it and all but here is what im wondering

what your your favorite liquid to run in your loop and why ?

can you use just regular old water.

run straight anti freeze like in a car?

so what is it you do?

there many method and solution. i'm lazy, i just use what the waterblock manufacturer recommends, typical their own products of coolants solution. they're expensive(rip off).

typical enthusiest use pt nuke, silver kill coil, distilled water, rolleyes.gif

i myself have just entered the world of water cooling after dumping my h80 kit. i'm just going with good ole distilled water with a kill coil. although i didnt buy a "brand name" distilled water, just went to the grocery store and picked up a gallon of distilled water for 1.50.

i'll add in ~10% of anti-freeze. which from what i've seen is what a lot of people use.

Destilled, killcoil and 10% Ethyleneglycol/antifreeze. Going to drop the killcoil because the antifreeze is toxic enough to kill algae/bacterias.

Water because it has a high specific heat [the main reason], it's cheap and I have the purification equipment at home to make RO/DI water.

Honestly, there's no reason to use any other liquid but water. There's a good reason why water is used in most all coolant applications from car radiators to nuclear reactors. You can run tap, but the problem is most tap has high Ca++ and Mg++ content so you risk having lime build-up inside your blocks. No reason to add anti-freeze, just add silver or copper sulfate [PT-Nuke].

i run distilled + killcoil + anti-corrosion (because im paranoyed)... i use to run glycol and such back in the early 775 days, but its realy unecesary if you are just going regular water cooling (frosty is a whole nother subject)... dont tend to run PT nuke as it can cause some dyes to separate out, but on the other hand kill coil can cause nickel corrosion (though it doesnt most of the time)... i tend to run copper blocks and kill coil as that is what gives me the best performance (and the copper starts to preform better over long periods of time because of the microscopic pits formed by the coil)... its realy up to you , but i dont see a reason not to use distilled water as it is very cheap and majorly effective

Some Nuclear reactors use coolants not just water ... Same as Subs which have Nuclear reactors in them. Just for you info only though and not a dig. I know this as i have friends who work in such places.

Guess it's a good thing he said most and not all, and it depends on the design of the nuclear reactor. Some use regular water.

@OP Use the search button next time, this thread has been asked and answered at least a dozen times here and all over the internet. Distilled water + algaecide (silver kill coil or PT Nuke) is the best coolant you can use.
