Use 7.1 Headset and 2.1 speakers on 1 Sound Card???

Thread Starter
Alright, I need some help here. I am building my first PC right now and I am using the HT Omega Striker Sound Card (Yes I chose it over the Xonar). I plan to get the Klipsch 2.1 pro media as my speaker system, and when the Tiamat 7.1 by Razer is released, I will be buying that! The problem is, the Tiamat, because it is TRUE 7.1, utilizes the 7.1 plug-ins meant for the sound card! How can I have my speakers AND headset plugged in at the SAME TIME? Is there some sort of audio switcher that can plug directly into the sound card and have my speakers/headset plugged into the switcher at all times to differentiate which I will use?! I have been searching, and searching but nothing exists!!!! I would think this would be an obvious solution but I can't find ANYTHING! T.T Someone help?

Plug the speakers into the front panel jacks (that I think should plug directly into your sound card assuming it has the headers like the Xonar tongue.gif ). Might not be as good of quality (never compared) but it'll work.

the speakers are 2.1 and utilize more than just a simple 3.5 mm aux jack located on the front IO of my case T.T (also only one of the xonars have the front connectors and even then they do not have the auto-detect feature I wanted...the HT does though ^-^ )

Hmm, not really sure besides some kind of splitter.

Maybe not buy the Tiamat and get headphones that don't need the full 7.1 plugs. I have a feeling for the same price, one could get better headphones :/

well, according to Razer the Tiamat will be the first headset to ever utilize true 7.1 and the sound quality from the headset is supposed to be mind-blowing. I have been trying to find some kind...ANY kind of audio-splitter that would work with this but can not find anything! I'm surprised something like this doesn't even seem to exist! Wouldn't surprise me though, that with the release of true 7.1 headsets that something like this is introduced to the market to solve this problem...

As nice as Razer products are, I don't trust them for audio tongue.gif Nor would I trust any PC magazine/website reviewer. We'll see once it comes out.

I just use some Beyerdynamic headphones with the Xonar and the surround sound/gaming software stuff and it sounds great in BF3 thumb.gif The only headset I've been impressed by was the Astro A40, but its too expensive, lol.

my mobo lets me choose. i can output whatever signal i want through any of the outputs, so i have my promedias in the standard green audio out jack, and then i have my samsung surround sound going out through my orange analog jack. then, my turtle beaches (don't hate, i used to be a console kid) are in my digital (optical) out. then i can toggle/change to whatever i want using the realtek audio console. love this motherboard biggrin.gif I'm not sure that the quality that great, but to me it sounds perfect. I've never felt it was terribad to the point where I need a soundcard. I don't think i'll get one until i get some high end headphones tongue.gif

I looked at the a40, but it isn't actual 7.1. It's just virtual surround sound. bleh T.T and I love the sound for gaming from the xonar, but for music and media it's not that great :/ and it really upsets me that such a high-end card is missing the simplest of user-friendly features.

The problem here though, is that this headset: http://www.razerzone.com/tiamat/en would actually utilize all of the audio-ports in the back (because it is again, TRUE 7.1 surround sound) and therefore those open ports on your mobo would be taken. :/ This being the introduction to true 7.1 headsets, I imagine gamers will start to see a trend in this technology and the problem I foresee will become more relevant... someone really ought to start developing an audio switcher thingy to solve this tongue.gif

how is the onboard audio for your mobo? do you NEED to use the soundcard for your kpm 2.1's? mine sound good on my stock, but that's an asus board you have and I don't know.
