I wish there was a negative rep button for people who say something that's completely wrong. Will stop people spreading false information.

The same goes for you. I own 3 projectors, one documented for 13ms, one at 20, and the other at 34. I can tell input lag in games.

Cool story, most people aren't using "HDTV"s for gaming on PC. 360 and PS3 have inherent lag that most gamers get used to on those consoles. I used my 13ms projector to play a round of BF3 just for kicks... Awful. I couldn't stand that if I tried. That was 13ms, forget the other ones.

You notice almost all monitors nowadays have 2-7ms lag? Its not cheaper to have lower input lag, so there must be a reason besides marketing...

Now back to my monitor rolleyes.gif

I know someone who owns a projector but still sticks with his monitor for gaming.

Its better than a projector (depending on model), but still not gonna match a monitor.

I have 3, guess what I don't use for gaming?

Old thread, i know. Sorry but i just had to reply and i find it interesting. Anyone else using projector with big screen for gaming? smile.gif

I would say "it depends". If you are a 110% dead serious gamer. Offcourse stick to a real monitor, it is more easy to use and you can run on your weekly LANs...

But if you are satisfied with a very good experience and some very good gameplay. Offcourse you can use a projector, no doubt about that!
I prefer a big screen rather then 2, 3 or 4 screens in some crazy "eyefinity" setup. Big is big, and gives you some real action and some real close presence to the action.
A 2-3 screen setup with 27-30" monitors will not impress on me. 90" is big and omg so nice!

I have a Epson LCD-proj(called TW-3200 here in Sweden) and a 90" screen @ 2.6 meters.
And as far as i know this projector has a measured input lag of around 25ms, compared to a CRT! CRT.
Other Epsons can have upto 80-100ms and when you reach that amount of input lag, yes you can tell.

I cannot find any input lag on this proj. I use my projector with my PC everyday for gaming(BF3 is one of them), writing on forums and so on, it is connected to my receiver.
I also have a PS3, X-box and a Wii U hooked up to it. No input lag, or 25ms...
Bought this projector in November 2011, so it is now around 16 months old. I have over 3100 hours on the lamp. smile.gif If i didn't enjoyed using it, i wouldn't have so much lamp time.

I don't know what exact projector you had and who measured your 13ms, but that proj did not have 13ms of input lag. That i can guarantee you, no matter what you say.
20-25ms is low, really low.

Hi there. I'm really really close to picking up an Optoma HD20 projector (amazing half-off clearance deal) for 70% PC gaming, 30% movies. I do a lot of PC gaming. I've played God of War III on my friends projector and it was an immersive experience! However, I have never played any FPS on a projector. I'm concerned it would almost be "too big" gaming on a 100"+ screen from 10' or 12'. Are the guns/HUD simply "too large" to be comfortable for you? Do you find any other problems when gaming on them? Appreciate your thoughts.

I have no idea about the HD20 and input lag. Sorry to say, but that is something you want to know before buying, you simply do not want input lag above 40ms.

"Too big"? It cannot get "too big". tongue.gif Seriously tho, that is something that you "get used to".
When you say 10' or 12', I presume that is measure in feet? I can convert this from what we use around the globe...centimeters. biggrin.gif
So, 100 centimeters(or 1 meter) is around 3 feet. So when you say 100" and viewing distance of 10'-12' that is over 300 centimeters.

I am using a 90" screen and have a view distance of around 8-9 feet. That is very close, to some people.
Me and my girlfriend, we just love it. I want to sit close to the screen so that i can take full benefit from 1080p.

So with your 100" screen at 10-11 feet, you probably get the same "presence" i have with my 90" screen at 8-9 feet.

I have not found any "problems" gaming with this setup at all. I play on the PS3, X-box, Wii U and the PC. And its just great.
I even do all my "browsing the web" stuff etc here from my sofa on my 90" screen. smile.gif

I don't find the HUD or guns "too large". No. I will upload a couple of pictures that i just took for you.
Don't let the image quality fool you, it DOES NOT look that bad IRL, offcourse. It looks like i have added like 1000% of grain... frown.gif
My only camera at the moment, are my cellphone, the Samsung S3. thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif
Also i have it pretty bright in the room as it is daylight here now, so the black levels are not justified at all!

Just wanted to show you,
to the left i put a " measuring rod "(I don't know what you call those over there. But you understand what i mean i guess?) on top of my speaker and way up to the top of the screen.
Just to give you a hint of the size on the HUD and so on...
That " measuring rod " is set at 122cm, that is around 4feet. smile.gif

First picture shows you how it looks like from my viewing distance, 8-9 feet and on a 90" screen.

Second picture, i get a little closer, so you can see that HUD size etc...

And once again, the in-game picture quality on those pictures above looks bad, really bad.
But trust me, It is 1000% better IRL. I simply cannot catch it with this lousy S3 camera.

Any more questions or whatever, just ask. I hope this "wall of text" will help you a little bit anyway...

Excellent! Thank you. I appreciate the conversation and wit. wink.gif

I couldn't find an actual response time for the Optoma HD20, however I did read a few forum posts and it's nothing to complain or be concerned about. Possibly a bigger concern is rainbow effect as I know for a fact this projector (coupled with my sensitivity to it) could be a problem for gaming. I want to go big, I just don't want to be swiveling my neck like an owl when I play games. smile.gif

I was (for a second) kicking around the idea of going with a 3D capable projector so I could enjoy NVIDIA 3D Vision. However, after a good bit of research on the NVIDIA forums it seems like it's more trouble than it's worth. I spend enough time tweaking PC game settings as it is. I don't need to also tweak for 3D.

I've been using a Panasonic PT-AE2000 in my home theatre for about five years now, and did some gaming experiments on my i7-2630QM laptop with AMD 5770 Radeon Mobility GPU via HDMI to the A/V system and projector. Gameplay quality was totally acceptable, and this was on 5+ year old projector technology at 103" diagonal. I couldn't handle the ergonomics of PC gaming from my theatre seating, so I ended up aborting any long term use of the system. Works great for movies, though. =) The quality of the display in our HT is substantially better than the local DTS-HD movie theatre down the road, without the sticky floor and a pause button.

I'm totally thinking about one of those new PT-AE7000 3D projectors now.
