Just Another Mouse Thread

Thread Starter
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble picking a mouse. I bought a Razer Orochi because I liked the idea that it has bluetooth to work with my laptop but can also be plugged in to get wired performance. I like the features of it, but I'm not liking the mouse itself. I think it's just too small for me and not very comfortable. The glossy sides seem to pick up dirt/oil on my fingers and my fingers feel like they're "sticking" to it. It's sounds crazy but it's so utterly annoying I can't use it for more than an hour or so. But enough hating on the orochi.

I'm considering the G9x; it looks comfortable, and it has basically all the features I'm looking for. I like the removable grips and weight adjustment. I'm concerned about the laser sensor though. I have a Goliath mouse pad, which is a cloth pad. I don't notice any issues with the orochi, which I believe is also laser, but I don't know about the G9x.

I was also considering a deathadder, but I believe it has the same glossy sides as the orochi and it'll just bug the hell out of me. The Naga Hex is a little more than I'd like to spend, but it's doable to if you guys think it's worth it I might jump on that.

Finally I was looking at the R.A.T. mice. I don't think I want the R.A.T.9 because it's wireless, but I don't know what the difference between the other 3 editions. The R.A.T.3 is the cheapest, but is it any different from the R.A.T.5 or 7?

If you guys have any other suggestions I'm open minded, I'll fill out the survey and post it below.

1. What's your grip style?

I'm not really sure. I haven't really used enough mice to determine what I like best. I'd say I prefer claw/fingertip as opposed to palm because that's what I'm used to.

2. What's your sensitivity?

Probably about medium. With Windows sensitivity set to 6/11, I use between 1500 (web browsing and general windows) and 2500 (FPS gaming) DPI.

3. What's your maximum budget?

$80

4. Do you want additional buttons?

I'd like a mouse with DPI adjustment, so 2 dedicated buttons for that is preferred, or the ability to map 2 buttons for that. 2 other buttons for my thumb is a must, and more is welcome (within reason, I don't want a naga).

5. What games do you play?

FPS (BF3, Half-Life, STALKER) as Skyrim, Minecraft, and the occasional MMO.

6. Do you mind about prediction?

No preference as I don't have much experience with it, but I would thing the ability to turn it on and off is a plus. Not important though.

7. Other relevant information:

Different profiles on a per application basis for DPI/button mapping is preferred. That's one of the features I liked about the orochi, and my old logitech had it as well. Also, I like a heavier mouse, or a mouse that can be weighted like the G9x. Finally, no glossy/sticky surfaces thumb.gif

Thanks for reading, and thanks for any advice smile.gif

I've never used a g9x so not sure about that one.

I have however owned a Deathadder and yes it does have glossy sides and I personally found it a bit harder to grip than I'd like being a claw / fingertip gamer.

My brother has a Naga and it completely feels like a palm grip only mouse to me. I find it near impossible to use without palming it which I hate. I have however heard others say differently which I can't quite fathom after having used it. It is a VERY comfortable mouse if that's how you grip though!

I would definitely have a look at the Logitech G400, it's basically a redesign of the MX518.

  1. It's perfect for fingertip/claw grip because of the overhangs on the side making it very easy to hold. It's also a pretty good size.
  2. It has DPI range from 400-3600
  3. It is a very reasonable priced mouse so is within budget
  4. It has the DPI adjustment buttons + 2 thumb buttons
  5. Good review's and a successor to the well loved FPS mouse MX518 so it should be up to the task
  6. I *think* the earlier versions had prediction but this was removed with new models of it, not sure how to tell the difference when buying but that's something to consider.
  7. No idea about profile switching as I've never tried nor installed Logitech software, sorry! But the mouse does not have glossy surface, hooray!
