DHCP Won't Start and cannot connect to internet

I'm fixing someones computer as they brought it to me and said how they had an ISP guy come out and say that it was something wrong with the computer, not their internet. So they gave it to me and I ordered a new ethernet card for the computer. Come to find out once the card comes in and I install it, internet won't work in that either. So I was able to find the problem. Every time I would go to restart the DHCP service, it would fail to start. They are giving me their restore CD and I'm hoping it will fix the problem. Anybody have any ideas to fix it or will a restore fix it too?

DHCP client?

You could always set the address to static for testing.

Might be horrendously malware ridden, though. There may be some other service dependencies that have to be started before this service can be.

Yes.

Okay. Do you think a fresh factory restore would fix the problem? I noticed they had uTorrent and LimeWire installed. Maybe this messed with the settings?

To rule out if their router is at fault have you connected it to your network and tested it then?

Be careful as the problem could be down to virus', just give the computer a good scan and see if anything gets picked up.

Otherwise i would go down the route of re-installing the TCP/IP stack.

Let us know what happens...
