Dust.

Thread Starter
Due to my eyefinity setup, I have to put my case on the floor. I put on top of a slab of wood, just to keep the dust from the floor out but it's not cutting it. I'm going to be building a new rig soon (with a Caselabs M8) that will be water cooled heavily. If just loaded the thing with fans that blow out, like wherever there isn't going to be a radiator, would my temperatures still suffer from not using outside air (You know, cause radiators are only cooled to your internal temps if air is being blown out)? My ambient are about 20c. Maybe if I just had a few fans in the back blowing in, or maybe the top ones. Basically, I'm asking for the best way to keep dust out and temps low! Thanks!

Keep in mind if you do a case based around negitive pressure (most fans blowing out) air will come in from cracks between the case's panels, and your case will get pretty dusty.

My recommendation?

Use a fan setup based around positive air pressure (most fans blowing inward) and put an air filter on all the fans you can, and remember to clean those radiators!

I use panty hose on all my grills. The only thing in my case after 3 months is fine white dust.

I highly recommend investing in some type of dust management system in an M8, especially if you're planning to load up all the fan slots. I have 21 fans atm, over half of which are intakes. My rig got pretty dusty in the first couple months, but it seems to be better since I got some DEMCiflex filters.

^this

I have my server installed in an Antec 900 on the floor in my garage in a positive air pressure config and it stays cleaner than my P182 in the house with a negative config and the server is on 24 hrs a day.

EDIT: oh and the 900 doesn't have filters.

That's an interesting thought. Do they even make black pantyhose? That tan color doesn't seem like a great thing on a black and blue rig haha.

Thanks, I gave you rep for that comment. What do youy suggest I use? That one guy suggested pantyhose, is that a viable solution? Sounds cheap which I like to hear.

Could you put a cotton mat underneath the case, to sort of help catch dust? I don't know if the case is raised or not smile.gif

A cool invention would be some kind of mat that is powered by battery and uses static electricity to attract the dust instead of the dust getting to the case intakes (poor science theory abound, I've been drinking)

Lots of fan manufacturers have fan filters that fit over their fans like grilles.

Pantyhose should work. I am very certain there are black pantyhose. haha if you want you can do fishnet too, although i would never. haha
