Few questions about overclocking

Thread Starter
I've read a few guides and watched a few videos, and I'm looking to get some consistent answers on a few niggling details about overclocking a 2600k i7.

Here is the motherboard I have purchased: ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68
And my cooling solution is a 212+

My goal is to reach a modest 4.2 ghz overclock.

The steps I know I will need to take:
- Change ratio to 42
- Increase vCore voltage steadily until I get a stable prime95 FFT 24 hour run.

Here's where things get fuzzy.
- Should I disable turboboost? And if I don't, will it try to boost it higher than 4.2ghz? If so I'm thinking there won't be enough voltage for the auto-overclock.
- Should I disable c-states? If so which of the two should I disable?
- I don't currently have the BIOS in front of me, but if there is a voltage spread option, should I leave this auto or manual? If manual what wattage should I input? And what exactly does this do anyway?
- Should I disable speed step if it exists?
- Are there any other things I should disable/change?

I really appreciate any help you guys can provide. I'm sorry if I'm asking questions that have been answered (which I suspect I am); feel free to flame me if that's the case rolleyes.gif

There's always a grey area for what is stable for me. If you're looking for gaming stable , I say a 4 hr run of Intel Burn Test is enough to push your system harder than any game will ever do.

to give you a quick idea of settings check out: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1578110

Also have a look on this forum, many many sandybridge guides

And if you leave turbo on no it wont go past your multi

good luck!!
