actaully the battrys dont have anything to do with the delayed launch there, although it certinly is putting them in a really bad rep, not a good thing to have with the ps3 coming up. they will need every ounce of rep they haveto come out of that alive. i know some die hard sony fans that love the ps2 and would buy the ps3 out of that. normally.

the ps3 is doomed however. the thing is insanly expensive, hard to program for, which makes it even more expensive to make games, on top of the cost of creating enough art to use the ps3's abilitys.

so the games are going to cost a ton, or they can be sold for the standerd $60 price that a lot of ppl wont buy, they will just wait untill it goes down. but if they choose to sell games at $60 they will make less money off of it than a game made for say, a pc, or the wii. and game sales are where the money lies. but if they are too expensive, no one will buy. facts of life boys.

but they need the game sales badly. the ps3 costs 1k to make, and its being sold for 5 and 6 hundred bucks in the us, and 450 and 550 in japan, where they have no microsoft compettition. you cant give away an xbox in japan, let alone sell one. no one will buy it. why the price drop then? to compete with the wii.

why so expensive? bluray disk drives cost 250 to manufacture, and there is a massive shortage of specialized components required to make these. then you ahve the cell proccessors. the problem here is that they only get 10-20 percent yields. thats right, out of every 10 cell proccessors made, only 1 or 2 are fully functional. the ps3 requires 7 of the 8 floating point proccessors to be fully functional, so to get 1 that can be put into the ps3, u gotta make between 5 and 10.

so they are losing more than $400 per unit on the ps3's, so even at launch, with the petty 500k ps3s they are able to sell, they will lose $200,000,000

even if they could match the 4 million units next spring goal, they would lose tons of money. no matter what way you do the math they are in for a tremendous loss.

yes, when you have it sitting still in one place. My neightbor's PII lappy is still working, yet, he's almost never moved it from the place it's been resting.

Fragile, they still are, drop it and you see if still works.

They still make some good products.

Like my MP3 player

But I agree they definitely have gone down in quality. Like computer monitors and LCD's

My mom has a 7 year old Toshiba Satellite laptop thats been dropped several times, had water spilled on it and been all over the place and guess what - it still works. My 3 year old Dell laptop still works even though Ive taken it lots of places and its gotten banged around quite a bit.

I dropped mine twice on a hard surface... from about 6 feet. ok, I had to replace the hard disk once, but hey, if I drop my desktop, I'd have more damage ... LOL

Working like a champ still

Sony is screwed. I just bought a sondy dvd drive a little while ago, and it's weak sounding motor scared me. the worst thing about this is that sony is such a reputable name, and thay have just gone downhill. the truth is, the Ps3 is so hard to program for, it costs a ton to program. so thats why the games are so much. SOny is in for a big loss here.
Dood.
