My mcp35x pump. - Page 2

based on various user experience w/ xspc ddc top, unlike ek v2 top & swiftech top (single pump) which both have clearance (small space) directly above ddc rotor, xspc top is very close to ddc rotor & can touch -- black dust may be ddc rotor bearing (the bearing block inside rotor - not white ceramic ball in water chamber) OR pom top

why does your pump leak? if top of rotor touches inside of xspc top the rotor drags & pump control chip increases voltage to restore speed - resulting in overheating of already hot pump circuit board & field windings - there are two (2) o-rings in Laing DDC pumps --- the larger o-ring seals the pump top, while the small o-ring seals the tension wire holding the white ceramic ball in the water chamber

if you do not have xspc pom top (or acrylic) I would look at pump top o-ring --- if xspc top than liook at water seal of white ceramic ball / not user replacable

I always shed a tear when I see a 35x mounted to a xspc bay res.

Why, and what bayres do you recommend
i'm sure it's just such a high end pump in a low budget res kind of doesn't fit

i don't see a problem with it, well other than blowing the warranty, personally i'd just go with a separate res(or bayres) with the stock top, but that's me

The 35x top is already the best in the business and you have to remove that to... There's also the matter of insta voiding your warranty. I don't have a recommendation for bayres because I find they couple the pump vibrations to the case too well. Nvm, lets just be honest here I don't like bayres at all.

sweems like all the bay res i find are for the 655. I really want to find a decent bay res for my 35x. just because i need to tidy up my tubing.

if you're dead set on a bayres for the 35x, check koolances 401&402 bayres's

I would have to assume he's got the Acetal(Pom) top because he said he removed a piece of black from the Oring.

Don't know if he's checked it yet, but check the groove where the Oring sits. Make sure there are no "strings" or "fluff peeking out from it. If there are no more it should be fine. CyberDruidtheModGod had something similar happen to him with the EK Dual DDC v2 top and it was a piece of acetal sticking up under the Oring which allowed water to pour out from the cover. I'm not going to say that this is the whole problem but it seems like the best place to start. At least the pump was able to start and restart so there is hope that the pump should recover from the event. mellowsmiley.gif

If you need to see what I'm talking about check YouTube for "EK dual pump top v2 Leak". He probably does a better job explaining it and the fix better than I can. smile.gif

ceadder, nano has replaced swiftech custom pom top (standard on swif mcp35x & best cover hands down) with xspc combined acrylic res + ddc pump top so black debris may be from ddc rotor bearing block (not white ceramic ball) - swif & ekv2 tops both have clearance machined above rotor water inlet inside pump top -- xspec does not do this either in pom or acrylic -- if user overtightens the (4) pump top retaining screws (m4's or usa unf's) the rotor will intermittently/randomly rub the inside of xspc pump cover slowing rotor and causing pump to overheat - pump control board may fail before white ceramic ball water seal fails or vice-versa

I suggest replacing pump at this point & not changing out custom swif top - just adding swif top res kit

That makes sense if his pump rotor is black. Not sure what color the 35x is but, I still don't see(after reading through a 3rd time now) which top he was using to begin with. I know it's an XSPC top but no mention of Pom or Acrylic. I could be wrong here since it's 0600am here an I ain't even slept yet so the eyeballs are a little fuzzy, thanks for at least pointing this out to me and I do agree that if the top is overtightened it could be disastrous for the pump. That would be a bit like holding the lever brake on a Bicycle while pedaling on slick concrete, you're gonna leave bits of tire on the pavement from the friction build up. sonic.gif

I'd like to see some pics in OP if I may though, that would make a world of difference as to how to proceed. If it's the pump grinding inside the top, a replacement may be in order but that would depend on the severity of the issue as well. And there really is no way to tell without a visual aid to go by. wink.gif
