Duly noted. But people who don't jaywalk shouldn't judge others that do. It's too bad you don't see the whole issue for what it is. The pump was defective before the top was changed. As long as it's returned intact who gives a rats furry sphincter? Pump prices are not where they are because people RMA pumps. If you believe that it is, well your naivete is commendable. thumb.gif

Hopefully, we shall see a post that tells us that after taking the pump apart and letting it dry out, that it works properly again. That should make everyone happy.

Sorry for getting back on topic.

Dude, it's leaking INSIDE the pump. No top or seal is going to change the fact that the unit is defective. No amount of drying is going to change that either. Go back through the thread, OP even stated that it leaked inside into the pcb. wink.gif

You do realize that if the main o-ring between the pump body and top leaks, water can get inside the pump to the PCB and motor windings, right?
With the orientation of the pump on one of those XSPC bay reservoirs, it is virtually guaranteed that water will get into the area of the PCB if the main seal between the pump body and reservoir leaks. There have even been a number of threads on this and other forums about just such leaks, and other problems/failures with the XSPC DDC pump bay res.

If it did indeed leak from the o-ring between the pump body and the XSPC bay res, this only strengthens the case for Swiftech voiding the warranty if the factory top is removed.

The only post about it leaking through anywhere else was speculation about possible leak points in DDC pumps by builtoeexess, not the OP.

As for drying it out, there is always a chance that nothing is actually fried, and that it will work again if it is dried out thoroughly. Virtually every time there is a thread about a WC system leak on these boards, it turns out that most, or all, of the components in the system still work after a thorough drying.
The fact that it actually tries to start, but stops, is a good sign that it may not be completely dead.

The pcb seems....glossy. Like its like not just normal pcb, it has a rubbery feel to it and also one of the plastic sides to the pump is cracked. didnt notice that before, but i think i rmemeber it being like that when i first got the pump to raplace the top. And i remember thinking that thats what caused the leak the first time i ran it (but it was def the o ring not sealing proberly)

edit:
Also, I do not intend to contact swiftech and lie to them about the situation. I myself made the choice to use an aftermarket top ( although one that is specifically made for this type of pump, you think it wouldnt be a problem haha)

Maybe they will still help me in my problem, or can offer me some kind of deal on a replacement, but I don't see the point in trying to just lie to them and try to get a brand new one.

Right on. EVGA, OCZ and Logitech did something similar for me. I contacted them, told them what happened, and they fixed me up. That is customer service, and what we should be looking for in our suppliers.

Just to be clear, if it is only a case of a leaking or misplaced O Ring, there is a chance that a proper drying out and proper sealing will fix it. I had a case where I was testing a loop using a bucket, and, when the pump came on, the hose came out of the bucket and squirted the power supply I was using. all shut down very quickly. I disconnected everything, let it sit for a couple of days, and, you guessed it, everything started up like nothing had happened.

That just shows that water in a PCB etc does not necessarily mean the item is dead forever. Although my post count may be low, I have been around for a while and have spent most of my time on other forums. As well, I am probably older than any two of you put together and have learned some life lessons you have yet to encounter. Being military has taught me a few things about self discipline, morality, and ethics.

There, got that off my chest.

perhaps caleal a more careful read of my posts would also point out the continuing issue of over-tightening of the (4) ddc cover screws resulting in either main o-ring leakage OR ceramic ball o-ring leakage - also results in pump water chamber cracks, leading to leakage.

laing ddc pumps were never intended to be disassembled by end user, and care must be exercised.

re: water/coolant wetting of pc control board - this pc is smt (surface mount components) & you may have to use paint brush to wet pc board with absolute ethanol alcohol to remove the last trace of water residue, 99.9%, not isopropyl/rubbing alcohol with high water content.

I have used laing ddc's for nine years and find them v. reliable - and if mounted/installed correctly, very quiet.

I have the whole pump dissasembled and in a very warm/dry spot. I will let it sit for the week while i work 60 hour weeks (damn mexican pepper season) and I will try again in a week and if it's not resolved, Im going to see what swiftech has too say(likely not much frown.gif ) I doubt letting it sit will do much however, as its already kind of been sitting. However, it was attached to the res, and there was water in the res.

Also, somethin i thought was wierd. When i had the res top on with water in it, it would still do that same spinning motion for a second and then stop, but the water didnt move AT ALL. the water acted like there wasnt even a pump trying to turn below it. Besides the vibration the water was completely still.

On a side note, I love this forum. Where can you find people like OCNs in real life? I gotta start hanging out there. ahah
