Help! Upgrading from a 260 to 295 (momentary upgrade, is it worth it?)

I have been thinking of doing an upgrade for the time being, and when opportunity presented itself and saw an MSI N295GTX on sale by a member here in the Philippines for 160 dollars flat, I did not hesitate to reserve the card immediately, since it would be a momentary upgrade and its a big leap I believe from my GTX 260. I am waiting for Kepler by the way, thinking of getting a brand new 560Ti or a 570 would not be a choice, because budget is limited to 160 dollars only. So do you think this would be a good purchase in my part? One of my friends messaged me and said that its a real headache purchasing an old card, so I was like yeah that's true, I game a lot (Battlefield 3, MW3, every FPS game around) and I want to see them at kinda maximum settings, especially BF3. Performance is the only thing I want, I don't so much care about the card's power consumption hehe smile.gif and the seller told me that the card is revision 2, it runs full load at 78c with auto fan, 65c with 80-90% direct fan control using RivaTuner, so there. So I'm here and asking for your opinions, would this be a good buy for the moment as I'm waiting for Kepler, or does AMD have a better used card for 160 dollars and its hell alot better than the 295? Thank you so much! smile.gif

Aww, man, you have me torn here.

On one hand, you have a great card that was the fastest thing out there for a long time.

And on the other you have an imminent(supposedly) release of Kepler.

Unfortunately, I'm going to have to reccomend a no on this one, only because its not going to get you all the way to Ultra on some of the newer games, its just not efficient enough anymore... That tech is too outdated now, wait for Keppler.

Thanks for the reply man, appreciate it. I was thinking of selling the card after like 3-4 months use, just want to play BF3 in Ultra Settings (AA is not much important to me, SSAO is enough too)... and I want to play SC:Conviction for the second time in max settings, something my 260 didn't quite like, was bordering to unacceptable frame rates even in low settings (20-30fps)... anyway, since its a rare card, I can sell it still at that price range after a few months maybe, or still should I wait for Kepler? smile.gif

I would be worried that, (unless you knew the release date of Kepler exactly) you wouldn't be able sell the card in time. All the previous cards are going to go down in price once Keppler gets released, regardless of rarity (not to mention the hassle of actually selling it). If you wanted to do it, you would do it at a large loss probably ~$60...

I don't know, man, I would be torn too. I, personally, have wanted to see one of those cards in person, especially the dual PCB version thumb.gif
