Yea I know, it sucks. AMD are probably going to lose more customers by not continue-ing with S939 chips because lots of us have them when AMD were big. I mean if you are gonna get a new mobo + RAM, you may as well get a Core 2 Duo, the only thing AMD have now is the S939 customers, and a few AM2 customers, but it seems they don't care much about us anymore.

We will see if the new 65nu performance deters the Conroe mentality
"don't care much about us anymore." Sure the care, it's just time to move on from the 939 socket, evolution of the CPU.

My thoughts exactly, Duke.
They aren't abandoning anything by moving forward from s939 to AM2 (and eventually Socket F). They're trying to pioneer the next big thing to take on Intel.

The only downside here is Intel's MASSIVE R&D and Advertising budgets... and the fact that tossing lotsa $$$ into both of those to try and trump AMD (a la, beating them to market with Quad-core, as a supremely eminent example) and ruin the buzz before AMD's products hit market.

Speaking of which, I think it's a little sad Intel's rushing so much into Core 2 Duo, etc... just to (seemingly) rain on AMD's parade next year. I personally, don't see a problem in a company taking its time as AMD does. That, and, I'm betting that when the K8L architecture hits the streets, it'll be at a nice, affordable, competitive price to do battle with Intel's chips.
I can't help but wonder if that'll give them a little edge (by not having to introduce chips so expensive, that is, since being able to match Intel's capabilities at more affordable prices can only serve to do AMD good).

:end monologue:

Well said
AMD is growing, new fab facility plans here in the US and upgrades of others will all do well to be able to keep up with the increase in demand. Many of the BIG companies scared away from AMD by the Intel practices that the current law suit addresses are becomming a big source of demand for AMD CPUs. More sales, more money, more money, more R&D, more R&D more newer products faster. All that and some time and AMD will get to be an even bigger threat to Intel.
