Win7 running more than 4 GPU, is it possible?

Hi,
I plan to buy more GPU card for my workstation. Right now, i already used Dual Barts x2 (6870x2 X 2).
Since migrating to 7xxx series is beyond my budget, i think it's worth to add more Barts to my PCIe slot. Still have one free slot.

Is it possible to add more card? So the configuration will be 3 X dual Barts (total 6 GPUs)?
Is it possible to do CF without puting the CF bridge flex cable?

Any comment would be appreciated. thumb.gif

TIA

Not unless you can write your own drivers. Max supported GPUs is four in an array. of course you can have more GPUs and distribute computing.

For Crossfire scaling is upto 4 GPUs. Windows 7 is capable to run as many GPUs as the motherboard PCIe slots available, but the limitation is in Crossfire 4 GPUs. SLI also 4 GPUs.

You can add 7 Dual-Barts (14 GPUs) with waterblock in X58 motherboard but crossfire remains for 4 GPUs. People usually do this is not for crossfire scaling but simply for data crunching.

Without crossfire bridge is not possible for cards in crossfire configuration. Lower end cards such as 5770 is possible without the bridge because they don't need a lot of bandwidth for data.

Also make sure your motherboard supports 2 PCIe slosts with at least x8/x8 lanes to crossfire.

Thank you for the reply. So it's about driver? But device manager show correct on this, and no exclamation?

Hi,
Thank you. Actually i did this to have more FLOPS on my brute-force computing.
Well, if GPU devices are recognized on device manager, will ATI Stream work on all of them?
How to know such GPU is loading their job or not?

Need a serious suggestion,
to speed up my computing power, should i forget this idea of adding more Barts?

TIA

Honestly, I'd recommend selling your 6870X2's and using the proceeds to upgrade to a pair of 7950's or 7970's, as the new GCN architecture is much faster for most compute tasks.

Yes, Windows 7 will see it as a single GPU, but the 5th GPU won't be communicating with the 1-4th GPU like in a gaming scenario.
