So a new generation card has better performance than a 1 year old gpu? That is your point? I was assuming months ago that would be the case.

Why would the prices change? The 7950 has better performance than the gtx 580 so no need to drop price of the 7950 if the gtx 580 price drops.

I have to admit, I am still surprised my 580's are $500... Crazy Nvidia you are...
Do I regret my purchases even now? definitely not...

Why so much hate as all high end single GPU cards are still ~$450-~$550?

It will always be a continuing war and now I am giving AMD their crown for their efficiency and power and 'especially' for the early release;

The gtx 570 and the amd 6970 were nowhere near $450, they are around $350 or less, and they are pretty much within 10% of the previous flagship that was priced @ $500+ (being the gtx 580). And I would consider both the gtx 570 and the 6970 high end gpus.

Now it seems like the second fastest gpus are going to be priced around $450 this generation instead of $350 like the last. There goes the price/performace.

We'll see about pricing... if Nvidia even thinks they can price their single gpu cards close or around $6-700, then that they better be at least 50% faster...

I have to admit, after purchasing high end GPU's, I questioned PC gaming in general, after the Batman AC and Crysis 2 failure this recent year...
Will I stop? probably not as it's more like a hobby for me...

It's not absolute, however they are definitely competing in the same price bracket.

what the hell with some people defending AMD or Nvidia....

we, consumers are the big looser here

a card that is 5% better than a 14 months old 500$ card...cost 450$....

Yeah, AMD should take the moral pricing high ground but NV can do whatever it wants! I mean who should expect NV to price reasonably??? They get a free pass. rolleyes.gif

To be clear: I'm saying: both nvidia and AMD charge too much. The fault belongs on nvidia, they set the prescedent with the gtx 280 and 8800ultra, now you reap what nvidia sows. Wouldn't AMD look stupid for charging less than the 580 for a card that outperforms it?

Nvidia seems to be the opposite. Just makes it more apparent that AMD is just milking until kepler is released.
BTW, not a total fanboy, I just go with the price/performance. That is why I have a 2500k. Also why I purchased the 570 over the 580. All about the price/performance imo.

Hmm.. guess that's one way of looking at it.

But I guess we should consider the performance and price of the competing product.

NV could have only lowered those prices because of ATI.

I think I am kinda seeing your point tho.

ATI "comes in first", jacks up the prices slowly on almost every gen and NV being late, "takes advantage of that".
ATI sets the pricing?

It was ATI's fault that the GTX 480 is priced "that" way since the 5870 was 379 dollar ish..
and that snow balled to today's pricing?

Am I making sense?

Pricing has gotten out of hand. Will have to wait until prices sharply drop because of them losing sales. Then again I'm probably wrong here. I bet if this was the case they'll just raise the price even more to make up for lack of sales and blame the price increase due to various other reasons. It's all about passing the extra cost to the consumer and I don't see us winning this anytime soon unless someone gets charlie sheen to represent us consumers asap.

I do understand that prices have been way out of wack before too- and I'm not blaming who has the money to buy the best and most expensive stuff out there (that only nets miniscule gains). It's their money so if they need to spend $1000 to stroke their ego then by all means. But goddamn, this has got to stop. Pricing should be based on manufacturing + small profit margin instead of a business model that flips a huge F U to it's consumers and wait patiently as those rich (and stupid) enough to buy their overpriced ego-boosting products fork over the money.

I was referring to your incredibly stupid post about "getting 5 more fps than a gtx570/6970". The difference is much more, even at stock. As most of us (apparently) can see, it nearly doubles them once overclocked and competes evenly with the $700+, much more power hungry, might go boom if you push it gtx590. My whole point is that you have none. Just a silly fanboy spinning until you drop from dizziness. The card, imho costs $75-$100 too much and some of the coolers look like crappy toys, but it's still a better buy than some other things right now and I guess that's bothering some people. Not that those "other things" are bad, because they are certainly not. Stay cool man thumb.gif
