It*s not the TwinFrzr Card,it*s the black/red One(ref-design).
Is it still worth getting it over the Sapphire 7870?

If your budget is USD 399 get a Gigabyte HD 7950 OC Windforce . These can easily do 1050 on stock volts. they can reach 1200 with extra voltage.

If you can spend a bit more pick the Sapphire HD 7970 Dual X card. Its an amazing card at USD 479

Does 1150 Mhz on stock volts. Does 1250+ Mhz on extra voltage. Its a real beast

Don't waste your money on HD 7870 right now. Its not priced well. A HD 7950 OC at USD 399 is the best price performance card right now.

When OC'd the HD 7950 will be a good 20 - 30% faster than HD 7870

I demand pictures and thermal/acoustic conclusions smile.gif I'm tempted to grab the HD7870 model depending on how the GTX 670 launch pans out.

I just put her in my system, no pictures yet.

Running at 975/1400 stock voltage(~0.95V at load) she topped out at 64 C in furmark extreme burn at 1920 x 1080 with 4X MSAA. ASIC quality is only 74.4% but I am still super happy with the thermal performance. This never exceeded 55% fan, which I could not even hear over my scythe ultra kaze (2000 rpm), which is about 32 db. I did try to run her at 1000 on stock volts and got driver crash. I am sure I could barely bump voltage to like 1.02-1.05 V and get it to at least 1050. I literally got this card about 1.5 hr ago so I haven't even begun to toy with it.

The card is enormous and awesome. The pics do not do it justice as far as the size is concerned. Fit perfectly in my Antec 300 for those who may be wondering.

My first impression is that this baby is SUPERB and I am 110% satisfied with this purchase. biggrin.gif

Hope that helps. I'll try to get pics up in a bit.

-Bio

Edit: it seems enabling MSAA lowers framerates and subsequently heat output. I am currently running furmark extreme burn at 1080p no MSAA at 53% fan and max temp of 68 C.

Upon looking in afterburner it looks like the stock voltage on this card is 1.031 V. If I set it to 1.093 V which is the stock volts used in AnandTechs review the card easily hits 1050 on the core and stays around ~71 C on auto fan, running at ~56% fan speed. Still relatively inaudible. This using the same Furmark settings as above, with no MSAA.

Works for me!

pretty sure this cooling solution will be way overpowered for the 7870. It should run at even lower fan settings. Even with the Kaze unplugged I can barely hear the card at ~45% fan and it is running at 94% load while running gpu tasks for BOINC, at 60 C. My antec 120 mm Antec tricools on high are louder than this GPU. They reportedly run at 30 db. Hope that helps a bit more.

And yes I love the card!

Gonna report about the result and OC options.

guys
Sapphire is come with a HD 7950 OC at 950 Mhz. Seems like AMD is letting its partners stretch their wings a bit.

http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=1157&pid=1551&psn=&lid=1&leg=0

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102991

Now if they can get that Radeon HD 7970 Ghz edition at 1050 Mhz (USD 469) with a few HD 7970 Ghz edition OC with 1200 Mhz speeds (USD 499) that would be great smile.gif
