Which will play BF3 on Ultra settings... - Page 2

Honestly noone in a fair/right mind would recommend you a new GTX580 over a new 7970 nowadays. You won't have any driver problems if you run a single 7970 imo so don't worry.

Get a 7970, overclock it and have fun. Don't forget that highly overclocked these cards perform just as well or even better then a gtx590.
There was a thread not to long ago where a user went from a gtx570 sli to a 7970 and the performance of battlefield 3 was greatly improved. The Game uses a lot of v-ram, and while the cards are perfectly capable of running the game, the lack of ram would cause lag and frame drops. I have 470 sli and I play BF3 fully maxed out a 1080p and while the game plays great, I do get frame drops every now and then. But it doesn't happen a lot maybe once a match if that, and overall game play is really good 60fps v-sync on. The only way to get rid of any frame drops is getting a card with high v-ram.

7970
/thread

In all seriousness, i could never turn ultra on with the 2 5870s i had previously. the 7970 will ALMOST do constant 60fps in ultra with vsync on. im sure it will get better as the drivers mature for it wink.gif

thank you everyone for the input and I was kinda shocked that the 580 fell behind that badly. Oh well its my tax return money and I want the best I can get for about $600 so i will get a 7970 sometime in the next few weeks.

I guess you mean with all the other eye candy turned on like MSAA and AA... and ambient occu-whatever. Otherwise, if you just turn those things down/off, you should get 60FPS with your card easy... I can hardly tell the difference... then again might just be my poopy monitor

I can tell a huge difference going from high settings to ultra. The problem is if I make a custom setting with some ultra and some high with 4xAA the game will eventually freeze after about and hour of playing. I think it's a Vram issue since I run at 1200p.

You can't run Ultra everything with AA and MSAA off? Hmm I always have Vsync on my 570 and seem to be able to do so... and a OCed 560 Ti is pretty much a 570. But in any case, the 7970 will be futureproof compared to your 560 Ti (have you considered SLIing them?)
