Sadly I think the 7900 series will be short lived and that AMD will be releasing 8900 series near the end of the year or early next year to take the crown back from nvidia. GCN with XDR2 memory and a high core clock seems like a simple win to me, hopefully they be coming out when Ivy Bridge E comes out.

From now to year end is 9-10 months away and i wouldn't call that a near future. Just get the fastest card now and enjoy your favorite games OP, you can always sell your 7970 in the future and get a better one.

Yeah but if new cards were to be released you can pick up the older ones for pretty cheap. I got my second gtx470 for $180 a month after nvidia released the gtx570, couldnt be happier.

I would personally get either the standard 7950 and overclock it myself, or wait for the 7970 to restock. Waiting for the restock may also give you time to see any benches that will release in the near future for the 7950 to see their performance difference. I would also prefer the reference cooler on the 7970 even though it's noisy, but I can't be sure yet because these cards just came out rolleyes.gif

By the look of included accessories, i'd go with the Sapphire 7970 but then i don't know when it would be in-stock again though. If you simply can't wait then just get the HIS since you'll be gaming on a single 1080p monitor anyway, you probably don't need all the extra goodies from Sapphire for Eyefinity setup.

Impatient hit the HIS 7970 - may take a week for the Sapphire to be back in stock on Newegg. It went out of stock on Sunday night. Last time took about a week for it to reappear. Hard to say if it will take that long again or not.

I personally prefer Sapphire that's how I know. Never tried HIS as a dedicated AMD vendor but haven't heard of any horror stories from them like XFX.

Do not get the over clocked 7950. If your going to go with a 7950 GPU get the stock reference card and over clock it yourself. Personally it depends on your budget.

The 7950 on a single 1920x1200 monitor is right on par with a GTX 580 for $20 less if you would like to know what kind of performance to expect. Posted some benches from reviews here.

Sapphire comes with the most accessories and HIS comes with some nice extras as well.

The only reason I even considered the Preoverclocked one is because it appears to have a much better cooler on it than the stock... Isn't the the stock sapphire that dinky single fan with just a shroud over it like in this pic
