Switchable graphics drivers

Is it true that the laptops with switchable graphics can't install drivers separately for lets say Intel HD and Ati HD 6470M because then the games lag on battery and do not lag on when power AC is connected...
no its not true, you can switch drivers if the dedicated graphics are selected as the main option. I do this with my dell all the time.

thing is i have a hp laptop and apprently HP hasn't released the bios where gpu can be switched....or is there a software which can do it for me? because when i install the automatically detection software from ati, it just doesn't recognize whether i have ati card or not but if i download the whole package from the link and install it, the driver installs it fine but then the games lag when on battery and runs fine whenthe AC adapter is connected.

Option 1
You will need to change from the Intel GMA 3000 HD(ie. Crap), to the AMD 6740M as your main gfx supplier. All you need to do is right click anywhere you're able to and select switchable graphics.

Power saving means Intel GMA 3000 HD.
Performance means AMD 6740m.
Unassigned means you haven't set it, so it'll default to power savings.

Make sure you click apply.

Option 2 if option 1 does not work Take a gander at this website.

Modified ATI Catalyst 11.2 Switchable Graphics Driver

i was more keen about calatyst 11.11+ because it has some skyrim improvements and since i'm playing that game, it is always good to get some boost here and there.

Is it normal when i install the calatyst directly from amd website, after that update, games lag on battery and work fine on power connected to laptop...

It is not that my drivers aren't working, they work fine no matter what i install...it is just that the games lag on battery (i have set everything to performance mode and other power options to max but it still lags) and on battery, the FPS just boost up i wonder why....

It works FINE whether it is on battery or ac adapter when i install older drivers from the manufacturer...

Problem is i want latest drivers and they just give me that problem :/

in all actuality you will not see huge jumps from one driver to another if your running a single card, you may see 1-4fps but not much.
As with the fps matter, have you set the performance for both on batter and on ac adapter?

I thought this was expected for laptops with switchable graphics.. my brother's HP dv6t select edition does the same thing. Runs BF3 quite smooth on AC with an i5-2410M and HD 6770M, runs like crap once it's on battery power.

It's all about how much power that can be delivered, and I don't believe a battery can (or should, at least, wouldn't it discharge quite fast?)

Updating the drivers on that thing was a nightmare.. then again I've been on team green since day one, so AMD/ATI's drivers generally confuse me to begin with. I've gotten to the point where "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"

If it works fine on AC, but "lags" when on Battery then your computer is probably throttling the GPU to extend the time that you can run on a battery.

It's a common thing that I've seen, so this may be the case for you.

and is there any harm in plugging the battery the whole time while gaming? i'm just concerned about my battery because i often take notes in class which lasts 1.5 hours or so i don't want my battery to die fast....

so just wanna ask if connecting AC power while gaming (even at 100% battery) would reduce the life of the battery. My battery is 6 cell Li-ion
