ssd free space question

Thread Starter
hi, i have noticed something with my cruical m4 128gig ssd. the issue is that i have 81.0g on my c drive , minus my 119g capicty = 38g free, yet it says 21.9g free. i the amount missing is the exact amount of my windows folder. i had my comp built at ncix so im thinking he as backed up windows install but im not sure.

is this normal for space to be missing like that ? any idea what is going on ?

thanks.

Did you follow this.

If not your page file is going to take up about 8gbs and there is a hibernate file that takes up some space too.

download this to see whats on your drive. http://windirstat.info/download.html

IF you have 8gb of ram you can just turn the page file off. I have since i got my SSD and haven't had a problem yet. The steps are in that guide.

Not recommended.

Some programs need to see a pagefile or they crash. MS also does not recommend turning it off.

I have 8gb as well. I set the minimum to 512mb and max to 512mb.

It is up to you honestly. I used to run no page file with 6GB of RAM for months on my x58 system till I needed it for virtual machines, then I just set it to 1GB. You can set it from 1-6GB is my advise depending on your needs or even disable it if you can/want.
