I am a little confused

Asus recently came put with the p5b deluxe and it has the p965 chipset. I thought the 975x is the newest with the greatest possibility of upgrading.

so which is better
and which is newer

the P965 are newer the X975 are older but they are a bit better but some prefer the newer one cuase it has newer technology in it but the 975 is a bit better imo they both suport C2D so lets all dance.

OK, in english...........

The 965 is the newest chipset, made specifically alongside the Core 2 Duo CPUs. The 975X is an older chipset but is commonly referred to as an enthusiast chipset, it is a very good overclocker.

The 965 chipset has been shown to be a very good overclocker as well and has a faster memory controller, although it is still young and has a lot of potential for improvements as it matures.

Performance wise? Both are pretty much the same, except! The 975X supports better CrossFire tech because it can do x8x8 PCI which is better than the 16x4 by the P965 and in terms of perrformance running dual graphic cards the 975X is better.

The 965 has great RAM support. So, if you are going to fork out for DDR21000 or 1066, it's the way to go. If you want dual GPU support, it's not so great.

The p965 is newer, has a faster RAAM controller, but is limited with the PCIe bandwidth...If you use a 7950GX2 in the board and overclock the hell out of your E6600, you can get about 11,000 marks in 3DMark06...SLI or not to SLI, Crossfire or not the Crossfire? Hmmmm...It's your money....

The Intel P965 is really annoying if your using linux. Basicly its a mission to get it to work on linux. Some jmicron IDE controller is not surpported.

I didnt know this before I brought one. But it is a much cheaper board and is really great for what i use it for. Hopefully in the future the linux Kernel will surport this Motherboard. its like the only chipset not surported by linux that I know of.

965 doesn't have Linux support? Crap, I may have to dish out the $300+ they want for a 975X board...

965 is cheaper in most cases, ($150-250 or so, 975X tends to be over $300), but stinks handling dual cards.
