Few questions about monitors regarding aesthetics only. Where's the brushed aluminium gone?

Hey everyone,

I'm tempted to purchase a 120hz monitor, or an IPS. I absolutely cannot stand cheap looking monitors, I have around £200-500, depending on what actually deserves my money.

The DELL IPS monitors, in my opinion are aesthetically poor, where's the brushed aluminium? I know these monitors perform astoundingly etc... but their design doesn't appeal to me at all!

Glossy 120hz monitors also look cheap and nasty, the only monitor I've found that looks even remotely nice, is the SA27950D, and I dislike the asymmetrical stand.

So my questions are:

Are there any brushed aluminium IPS or 120hz monitors, up to spec for gaming for around £200-500? I can't find any!

If the above do not exist, would I be better off putting up with an ugly 24" Dell U2412M IPS and taking the DELL badge off it? I really can't stand the look of it.

Or for a 120hz, I was thinking of the BenQ XL2420T 24" or Alienware AW2310 Black OptX 3D?

But again, based on aesthetics, I'd pick the Alienware, even though it looks all plastic n' cheap, and is essentially "DELL".

I know what a good monitor consists of, I know what produces a good picture etc.. I'm purely basing it on appearence, however, I wouldn't buy a rubbish monitor that has a nice chassis just because.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I do have one monitor to suggest:- LG DM92.

It is a 27'' monitor with IPS panel and it has 1 mm bezel (this is not a typing mistake).

It supports 3D and so it is supposed to be 120Hz as well.  But I have no further details in this aspect.

Aesthetically speaking, it has everything, IMHO.

It appeared in CES earlier this month and it should hit the stores in February.  And I think your budget should be enough.

The monitor on the left is the DM92.

Windfire, that looks amazing. Going to be a fair penny though.

Oh wow, that's amazing! Wonder when It'll be available in the UK? I've had a quick google around nothing substantial yet!

I guess I'm best waiting for a new monitor then! I just don't want to be spending £500 if the monitor is not much of an upgrade from my current 26" in terms of what I actually do.

Because, I mainly play games, use a bit of CAD, and minor photoshop editing.

Dell's IPS monitors are incredibly high quality. I'd rather have a 1cm black bezel than deal with reflections off of brushed aluminum.

I'm surprised you don't like the Dell IPS monitors... they are very clean looking and non-reflective. High quality with a great picture... maybe give it a second chance?

Unfortunately I don't know of any similarly high quality monitor that has a brushed aluminum finish... haven't seen those in years.

That LG looks crazy. If the panel is up to snuff, I might be in the market for one in the future.

I may give the dell another chance, if someone could post me some super high definition pictures of their dell IPS monitors I'd be very grateful! I have had a look at YouTube videos n' such, but I still can not tell how good they look!

I'm more of an FPS gamer, so I tend to go for silky smooth over general colour saturation/brightness/sharpness etc... More like anything to get an edge in game over my opponent!

My current 26" was a huge jump for me from my 21.5 inch ASUS, insane seeing draw distances more clearly, I don't know if I'd like to downgrade the size!

Guess I'll need to borrow a friends 24" for a bit, see how I fare with it!

Damn I'm indecisive!
