Upgrading my rig, need advice (1090T or FX-8150) - Page 3

I would lean more towards the 8120. The 1090t would have been a great buy when they were $30 cheaper.

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/203?vs=434

Shows the 1100T vs 8150. You can overclock the 8120 easily to the same level as the 8150 so its a pretty fair comparison.

bulldozer 8120 and 8150 overclock way better then the phenom x6. i've seen the 8120 hit over 4.6 to 4.8 easily. the x6 only tops out at 4.2ghz to 4.3ghz and if you are lucky then you'll get 4.4ghz which is really rare.

I am under the impression that using that much ram may limit your overclock with the Phenom II. I certainly have had a more stable rig switching from 4- 2GB sticks to 2- 4GB sticks! I wouldn't fill all the slots. Dual channel with 2 sticks IMO.

I would say FX8120 or 8150.
But looking at my sig, you would say I'm a little bias now won't you?

You want to "upgrade" from a C2Q to a Thuban or Bulldozer? Why? Let's just lay out the logic. C2Q is about 10-15% faster at the same clockspeed as Thuban, and they OC similarly, perhaps Thuban has a 10% advantage on OCing (shocker, they're both even). FX-8150 is slower than Thuban, clock for clock. With both at the max OC's, they're roughly tied, in that nobody would go from one to the other unless they needed more multi-threaded performance. Now, an i5-2400 at stock is faster for gaming than either AMD choice at their max overclocks. Also consider the i5-2400 can OC to about 3.5ghz on all cores (13% OC). This is with any "crap" $100 Z68 board, and the stock cooling. I'm just saying that AMD options wil be at best a negligible upgrade for gaming. There's also the issues of higher power consumption, a good aftermarket air cooler to OC the AMD CPUs, the higher-quality board they need to handle all the extra power, etc.

Just my .02 so we don't see you again in a week saying Bulldozer is slower for gaming than your C2Q.

Look at "Intel boys" they all trying to convince you to 1090t or any older Phenoms.
For 2 years I was using only AMD chips, it's easy with backward compatibility sockets as AM3 and AM3+
Athlon II-620....PII-965c1....PII-1055.....PII-1090t.......FX8120/4.8Ghz

FX8120 was made to be overclocked, it's his nature that's why it's calls FX.
and yes... if you against overclocking completely go for PII-1100, but remember it's scales max only with one 6970/470,
FX8120/4.7 easily holds Triple Crossfire/SLi with max settings......Phenom not that good at that.
Multitasking.... this is real addiction, once you experience that your CPU can hold few heavy tasks without a sweat,
you'll always keep few "Jobs" on the background even when you play BF3/Skyrim/GTA4 or any other game.
One more thing, this CPU loves more RAM, if you install 16Gb it will utilize as much is possible, but make sure this RAM speed over 2000Mhz

I'm not an 'Intel boy' .. I hate Intel and i told him to go for the 1100T .. The 1100T can be OC'd to 4Ghz easily.. I have had mine running at 4.3 with only 8GB's of RAM and it handles multiple processes fine??

Also, your theory that it max's with one 6970 / 470 is bogus.. thats not true at all, if you have read ANY Bulldozer-FX related forum you will know that the Bulldozer-FX series CPU's are WEAKER than that 1100T / 1090T.

Just to clear things up.. its the 1100T that will be taking the Triple Crossfire/SLi setup with max settings.
the 1100T does not break a sweat if you are playing BF3/Skyrim/GTA4 all maxed out.. it does fine. I would know because I have these games and my CPU usage never goes above 40%.
