My point was simple ... Do not invest in older technology.

Thread Starter
Hey guys!

Thanks for all the tips and info, one of my friends actually had a spare unopened 980BE chip laying around that he has given me, and my Crosshair V and 8GB of Corsair Vengeance is currently in the mail.
Yeah, I could have spent the cash for the 1090T or the 8120/50 but this will be adequate for right now until I upgrade the CPU again around the holiday season 2012.

Final Specs

CPU: AMD 980BE (free)
MOBO: Crosshair V ($219.99 newegg)
GPU1: ENGTX 460 1GB
GPU2: ENGTX 460 1GB
Ram: 8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3. ($47.99 newegg)
PSU: X4 750W

Total cost of upgrading: $267 with enough left over to take Mrs. Fixedgear to a lovely Valentine's dinner and stock the rest for whatever CPU I want to buy in the future.

And for the record my old C2Q Q6600 is being placed into an entirely different system as a "Guest computer" with all my old spare parts (except for motherboard/ram from current system)

(One of the main reasons I am upgrading is due to an issue with my current setup that basically causes the ENTIRE system to lockup or become very unstable at stock speeds. It's either a problem with the DDR2 Ram, something with the motherboard, or something with the CPU but I haven't been able to narrow it down. I am also 100% sick of inexplicable crashes and full lockups.)

Once again Thanks for all your help guys!
In the coming months I will either wind up getting the 8120 or 8150 or whatever else they release, as I want to stick with AMD for the near future after being a hardcore Intel fanboy for almost 16 years.

Not in PC/tech stuff. As much hate as there is for Bulldozer, its still better than Phenom II. There are a few benchies here and there where the Phenom will win but not by much but the vast majority of benches and applications, an FX-8000 is better.

the 1100T does not break a sweat if you are playing BF3/Skyrim/GTA4 all maxed out.. it does fine. I would know because I have these games and my CPU usage never goes above 40%.

That is because your 5570 is your bottleneck. If you had just a SLI 580s and went to Whiterun(in Skyrim) you would see a bottleneck. Even the i5-2500k @ 5GHz bottlenecks in Whiterun with SLI 580s.

Skyrim is horribly optimized.I am pretty sure that is common knowledge.

I also read somewhere on here that one of OUR members was having 100% CPU usage in Whiterun with SLI GTX 580s. I think it was Bala, but don't quote me.

I'd get an 8120 and overclock it.
