i've bought a lot of cheap stuff in my life. and haven't just quite completely the lesson and still do. most of the time (99%) it's been the wrong choice. i ended up buying 2 or 3 of the same cheap stuff. or eventually buying the more expensive stuff making the purchase more way expensive than it should have been.
so now i like to buy what i want. not what's on sale. i dont care for the clearance stuff anymore because most of it is junk with no resale value.

you get what you pay for. it's more like 199vs 399. most ppl will "list items by price" and buy the 199 then you'll see them complaining 6 months down the road.

I just tested a Samsung S27A850D 60Hz PLS versus Samsung S23A750D 120Hz TN versus the best display ever made (Sony FW900) on my desk all right next to each other in clone mode.

The PLS screen had a real nice picture but the 60Hz and slower pixel response time were definitely noticeable in motion. Scrolling around in Starcraft 2 the image became so blurred that you couldn't even make out individual units as you moved the camera around the map.

The 120Hz TN was much better in this regard but it still had noticeable blur compared to the CRT. I also preferred the "wet glossy" look versus the PLS "matte". Although you do give up resolution, the TN being 1080P and the PLS being 1440P.

As always, the motion on the FW900 was crystal clear and made for the best gaming experience with silky smoothness and a great picture. FW900 set at 2012x1286@90Hz and anti-glare film removed. .
