Sweet X1950XTX - Thanks guys!

Thread Starter
Ok, I just got my X1950XTX and got it and the power supply installed, and OMG, this thing is truly unreal! After all the bashing I took for getting this instead of just a 1900, I know now that the extra $150 was well spent.
I just really wanted to give a thanks to Chozart and Mr Crowley for all thier advice as to what I needed to purchase from newegg to get my rig blazing. You guys were spot on about the performance of these items!
Also, while I was @ newegg, I purchased 4 new sticks of DDR2, listed now in my specs, was able to almost completely remove the windows page file. I also upgraded my monitor to a beautiful Acer 19" 2ms, and also bought a hard drive cooler, which since my HDD allready has a cooler on it, I'm just going to stick the new one in my empty 5.25 slot to draw in extra air.

Thanks again guys! I've been here a short time and allready everyone has helped me more than they know!

Can you do me a favor.. I know the old socket 939 architecture had trouble with four filled RAM slots. I am interested to know whether this still is the case with AM2. Can you run several benchmarks with 4GB and 2GB RAM, identical settings, and post the results here. SuperPI 1MB and SuperPI 32MB would be nice. If you have other RAM speed benchies (sisoft Sandra), that would be cool!

I think that will be helpful information to see if AMD fixed their trouble with the memory controller.

Awesome rig

Thanks!

OK, well - unfortunetly I've run into some other problems, thankfully not hardware related, so I had no other choice than to do a clean install of XP-MCE. So once I get things back up and running, I'll be sure to post the pics for you guys, and I'll also try and get to running those benches for you too.
Oh yeah, I also wanted to ask, is it normal for windows to only detect/use a little over 3gb of ram even though I have 4gb physical? I know that with a 32bit system I'm pretty sure that thats all the more windows will show, and it will use the rest for I/O, network, swapfile, etc.

Lol, also... first thing I did during my upgrading, I snapped the heatshielding off of one of the sticks of PNY. Sucks cuz I didnt want one stick to have no shielding, so I removed the shield from one other, and then put new shields on two of the sticks. So now I have 2 gold shielded sticks and two silver sticks.

Nice setup. I would've gone for less ram and a bigger monitor. But that's personal preference Enjoy

one question? how can you say that the X1950XTX is worth the extra $150 when you didn't even run any benchmark? all cards boot into windows looks the same. Try some benchmark and compare

Well with 4 gb's of ram I suggest you get windows server 2003. As im aware its the only current windows os out that CAN use 4+ gb's of ram. And its pretty easy to turn into a work station.

For windows detecting the 4GB, go into the BIOS and see if you have an option to enable Hardware Memory Hole. I was only showing 3.25GB until I enabled this.
