Sweet X1950XTX - Thanks guys! - Page 5

The EXACT same thing happened when ATI released the X1900 series. I bought the X1900XT the first week it was released, and that's what happened to me, too. Give them a month to get the new drivers together & it'll scream. Waiting that month was a cast iron Вїtch for me...

I think the 6.10 betas support the X1950.

well, i did manage to download the 6.10 betas, but I've read alot of garbage about those as well, so i'm a little iffy on actually using them.

I kinda' look at it this way...
I HAVE the card, its still running better than alot of other cards that i could have gotten, and I know eventually ATi will release the CCC 6.10 w/ full support for my beauty. Like I said before, now only time can tell!

I'm going to see if perhaps my crapper memory doesnt have something to do with this whole problem. I know that my system is running faster now with just 2 sticks of PC2-4200 than was with 4 sticks in (4gb). So when I get my low latency PC2-5300 sticks in today, and get those babies jumped up to 800 (from 667) we'll see if that makes things better too!

I'll get the pics up of the new case and everything today, probably somewhere around 4:00 - 6:00pm EST. I cant wait, I'm gonna pee myself

Yeah, 2GB is a better choice than 4GB, esp. with AMD rigs. AMD's on die memory controller does not like 4 sticks of RAM (technically it starts having trouble with 6 or more banks of memory, which is 3 or more double sided sticks, and almost any 1GB stick is double sided).

Based on your experience, these trouble still exist with AM2.

Oh absolutely! I know this may sound absurd, but just loading into windows and opening outlook express and internet explorer (like I do every time I start windows) was a finger-snap when using just the 2gb. When I was running the 4gb, windows initial load time was noticeably longer, and opening both IE & OE took some time as well.

I'm RMA'ing 2 of the sticks of PNY (since I physically modified the other 2) since I will be getting my Patriot EP PC2-5300 sticks today. I hope they make the difference that I'm hoping for! I'll fill you guys in later today.

Good. So your final decision is 2 GB of the DDR2 533... correct?

Thank you for letting me know that AM2 still has memory control issues. I think this is important information to at least several AM2 users out here

I forgot to ask in my last post, where abouts should I start looking for methods/tools to OC my processor and my memory? Actually, can I even do any OC'ing with the mainboard that I currently have? (Asus Nodus-M)Or should I save for a new board? If I get a new mainboard its going to have defeated the fact that I purchased a "top-shelf" PC. I've allready replaced just about everything else in this thing, and if I dont have to replace something to get the performance I want, I wont.

I am actually very happy with the way my rig is running right now, aside from the fact that my X1950 needs new drivers and my HDD could be a tad faster. So the only way I'm going to consider a new MB is if I can do absolutely NO OC'ing at all.

final decision is the DDR2 667. Or at least thats what Asus states as the max memory for this board. Either 533 or 667 DDR2 240pin.
PC2-4200 = 533 <-- what I'm currently running/sending back
PC2-5300 = 667 <-- what I have coming right now

Ok, well I dont know if any of you guys who had been following my setup from the start will get to see this but I figured I'd post some new info anyhoo...

I recently purchased a new processor:
AMD Athlon 64-FX62 Dual-Core 2.8ghz (this puppy is just burnin' up my benches)
Bought a nice aftermarket cooler for it:
Scythe Samurai-Z (does an excellent job over stock cooler, which actually was also a 2-pipe design! The Scythe has a bigger fan, much better design)
Added a nice little Northbridge HS/F:
Coolermaster mini-cooler (tiny little aluminum hs w/ a fan that actually does a decent job of keeping it cooler than the stock sink)

I was also able to get the X1950XTX running the way it should, even though I'm still stuck with the factory-shipped drivers (.282...). I found out that for some rediculous reason, my system did NOT uninstall ALL of the onboard drivers for the nvidia 6250gs, and I know this is gonna sound like a load of crap, but after 2 hours on the phone with ATi, deleting/moving/adding drivers, my benchmark scores are where they probably should be.

These benches were run with card OC'd using Overdrive @ 695mhz GPU / 1062mhz MEM ,
and ATITool running the fan @ 100% <-- only thing its good for at the moment

AquaMark.3 - previous score> 79,819 | new score> 102,558

3dMark05 - previous score> 10,706 | new score> 12,534
(Futuremark tells me that only 17k of over 1million+ users scored higher )

I've yet to run the other benchies yet, but I will be sure to post the scores when I'm done. I was just overly excited with these new scores and HAD to post them. I hope you guys get to see them, let me know what you think. I also will be posting the new pics soon. I dont think I've put up any pics of my new system yet (the new case, etc.).
