Tax time: 500 Budget - Best bang for buck build

Ok, so you can see my current rig at the bottom. I want to spend no more than 500 or so and get the best bang for my buck. I am keeping the case, HD, PSU, and monitor. Everything else has the option to go..

I have been looking at several different builds to go with but I can't decide.

My first build that I thought of was:

Asus m5a97 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131767

2 x Sapphire Radeon 6850 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102908

Corsair Vengeance 2 x 4gb 1600 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233144

So then I decided that I do not want to deal with the headaches with Xfire and I replaced the 2 6850s with:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161382

I planned to keep the 945 and run it on the new mobo. If you guys could help me come up with a better cpu, mobo, memory, and video card package that can beat the other two or have any suggestions feel free to throw them in there! Thanks in advance!

Edit: It does not have to be a AMD based system. Maybe a 2500k and a GTX 460 would be better? I am not biased toward anything as long as they are not "crappy".

So you linked a $300 GPU and $500 budget. I am confused what parts you are looking to replace exactly.

With the budget you could get the aboce board, which is great BTW, and a Phenom II but you alrerady have one..

the 2500k would run you around $215, mobo around $100, Ram around $50, and then 135 for a GPU..... unless I misread your post. Of course selling your old hardware to offset the cost is an option as well.

Yea I did. Even with buying the 6970, some ddr3, and a new mobo it still puts it under 500 dollars. That would leave me running the 945 on the new mobo. I currently have it clocked at 3.2 so its at 955 speeds right now.

Basically I would not care to replace the cpu, mobo, memory, and video card. I didn't mean to be confusing.. lol. What it comes down to is that I want the most performance(like all of us!). I have looked at bench marks, read reviews, and compared prices over the past few days and I am trying to decide what would run best..

I am kinda thinking the 945 on the new mobo, some ddr3, and the 6970 is looking to be the best right now. I know it would be slower in some applications over a xfire setup but It would not have the issues you get with xfire.

Did that help any? lol

best you can get for $500

Motherboard same as your previous choice Asus M5A97
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131767R

8gb of Gskill sniper 2133 ram
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231519

GPU EVGA GTX 460 2 Win faster than a gtx 580 at 2/3 the price (dual gtx 460s on one card)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130626

or you can get a gtx 570 or hd 6970 and spend the extra $30 on a good cooler and overclock your cpu

(or just add $30 to ur budget and get another cooler on top of the 460 2 win tongue.gif)

Does Vram need to play a part in this at all?
I note your gaming 1080p but do you care for running mods on your games?

I play my games with AA and mods and i touch my Vram limit with 1920x1200,kinda wish i bought a 6950 instead of a gtx480 sometimes.

Well, for a future proof it would be nice. I know that future proof doesn't mean much these days and you gotta pay for it. I was looking at the 2gb 6950's at one point. They are already close to 300 so then I decided to look at the 6970s. I do play with some low AA sometimes. That setting is never been really something I have pushed hard on. Only when the systen has room to spare in FPS do I mess with them. Such as in SW:TOR... I have the shadows turned off when I play right now...

This is what I ended up with:

Gigabyte GA-970a-UD3

XFX 6950 2gb

Coolermaster 212+

Corsair Vengence 2 x 4gb 1600

Oh, and a case was not on my list but I picked up a Antec 1200 from a closeout store still in the box for 72.99.

I have my Phenom II 945 c3 chip at 3.2ghz right now and i'm sitting at 21c idle.

go for one of these RAMs
G.SKILL Sniper Low Voltage Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 $49.99
or
SAMSUNG 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 $47.99
dont go on the look of the Samsung those overclock to 2500Mhz eek.gif
and change the cooler to
Enermax ETS-T40 T.B.SILENCE CPU Cooler $29.99
or
COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO $34.99/URL]

dont go with XFX buddy
HIS IceQ Turbo 6970 2GB is good factory clock by almost 20mhz and is cheaper
