It CAN be your onboard soundcard, but it's also possible that the pops come from an external fault.
E.g. if the refrigerator in the kitchen pops up, or if an electrical engine in the house starts (vacum cleaner, airco,...) it will give a peak of amperage for a moment (milliesecond or so
). And since ALL your wires in the house are conected somehow, the "pop" can circulate everywhere in any device. Also your PC, and if it goes into your soundcard, it will amplify and that's the "pop" you can hear... Nothing to do to that.
Only thing you can do is to put your PSU power cable into a device like this: (Only one!!! 2 in serie will make it worse because in the end it's a filter... and putting 2 filters behind each other will create lot's of funny things BUT NOT a solution
