Why FPS game developers use (almost) the same weapons, firearms, and equipment ?

I think they do on both sides and not just COD and BF, but others. Many of the COD games such as MW2 and MW3 have the same weapons and equipment as BFBC2 and Bf3. why? to be honest they are trying to keep up with the military progressing with new weapon systems. they also put in prototypes such as the XM-25 Grenade Launcher and the PM-9 which is just a Croatian version of the Israeli Uzi.
I hope that this can settle some disputes over why some games have the same weapons but different cabilities such as the FGM-148 Javelin system that is used in both COD and BF. in COD you can lock onto whatever you choose in BF3 it is ground vehicle lock on only.

I hope i get some good input from this with the help of some people on here.

thanks.

Because it would take massive and waste full amount of times to develope special and one game only weapons. Along with that why would BF3 want a crazy diffrent setup to make it harder for MW3 users driving them away. And I have shot alot of things In RL and in game and I've never had a gun tell me what i can and cant shoot.

It would be but they need diversification to satisfy the needs of both sides of the players on the games.

First off proof read. Exactly plus most games are based on some aspects of real life so theres going to be universal weapons that appear.

See above.

The M16/M4 platform has been in use for almost 60 years and is in use by governments worldwide, and the AK platform has been around since just after WWII and is arguably one of the weapons responsible for the most death in human history.

Guns hang around for a long time.
Heck, the M14 came out of retirement and had some surgery done a few years ago.

They are used over and over again because the games you are talking about aren't Sci Fi shooters.
They are (loosley)based on real world military equipment and tactics.

They use the same weapons because they're all unimaginative losers that can't come up with proper gameplay so they resort to simply mimicking real life.
