Thinking about playing EVE Online

Thread Starter
I've been playing mmo's for a long time but I've never gotten into eve mainly because I feel like I'd be at a constant disadvantage because I'd never be able to catch up to someone that's been playing longer. It looks like a great game and it seems like there's no other innovative mmo's out there with a good player base. Was just wondering if the advantage of someone playing for 3-5 years more then me is still going to be a big difference even if I play for a few years. Also if anyone has a 60 day or 21 day trial it'd help me in deciding if I want to start to play.

I had a friend who played EVE online. Of course anyone who has played the game for several years will have an advantage, if nothing more than knowledge. I'd be willing to bet they have some sort of free trial. I gave it a try and didn't care for it myself. Its almost 10 years old and is still receiving favorable reviews so - people must like it. frown.gif I was sad to EverQuest die out the way it did.

Join a helpful Corp like Eve University. They were great for me when I played. There was.always something fun to do and plenty of people to do it with. Not to mention teaching you tons about the game.

Since training is time based, yes they will statistically be much better than you, but not to say you can't kill someone who's played longer

Everyone slips up and everyone loses ships. Come to terms with losing ships, you will lose A LOT of them.
If at all possible join a Corp that will back you with ISK for implants and skill books, get your Cybernetics up to Level 4, attach +4 implants to every attribute. EVE Uni is decent but in recent times I wouldn't bother actually joining them. However their website has great tutorials, http://www.eveuniversity.org. If you're looking to PvP, try to find a corp willing to mold newbs into fighters. Preferably a corp with an alliance. They may think you're an Alt Spy, however, it happens a lot, so just be honest and don't try to screw over anyone!

Train smartly, don't go across the board training every single skill under a category. Train towards Core Certificates first, then I would focus on Cruisers and Battlecruisers, and then push for Tech 2 fittings for EVERYTHING.

Feel free to PM me if you need any specific help.

Anyone with more time than you could have better skills, but you can still kill them or be better at something than them. It's experience and skill specifics that helps a lot. Focus on what you like...industry, trading, mission running or pvp...Make a skill plan and do what hstanford1 told you about implants...
BTW, PM Sent.

Well after reading through a lot I've decided to start an account. Someone on eve's forums sent me a 21 day trial and is gonna buy the trial upgrade for me. Since I don't know to much about the game I figure I'll just do mission running for now and aim to pilot a drake for skill training. Thanks for the tip on the implants to, I didn't see that mentioned in any guides I read but I'm guessing it should speed up training time by a lot.

Justdan, if you want to, go to your People & Places tab in game (left hand side) and search for Character (Exact) type Alita Alabel and add contact with good standing.
It's a lot easier to help you out if I can actually fit ships while we talk and go over a good beginning skill plan for you. smile.gif
