Since training is time based, yes they will statistically be much better than you, but not to say you can't kill someone who's played longer
Everyone slips up and everyone loses ships. Come to terms with losing ships, you will lose A LOT of them.
If at all possible join a Corp that will back you with ISK for implants and skill books, get your Cybernetics up to Level 4, attach +4 implants to every attribute. EVE Uni is decent but in recent times I wouldn't bother actually joining them. However their website has great tutorials, http://www.eveuniversity.org
. If you're looking to PvP, try to find a corp willing to mold newbs into fighters. Preferably a corp with an alliance. They may think you're an Alt Spy, however, it happens a lot, so just be honest and don't try to screw over anyone!
Train smartly, don't go across the board training every single skill under a category. Train towards Core Certificates first, then I would focus on Cruisers and Battlecruisers, and then push for Tech 2 fittings for EVERYTHING.
