AX750 and 2 7970 overclocked?

Thread Starter
Currently I have amd x4 125w, wery few fans, a laing D5 (10w?).

In future I want to watercool 2x 7970 and maybe even overvolt to 1.25v.

So is the AX750 up to task, besides cpu no other components use alot of power.

You are fine mate. You will have like 100watts so spare, 7970 use less power then gtx 570. thumb.gif

567W at full stress = 489w @ 85% efficiency, further 150w for the rest of the system and cpu load, you're looking at around 650w, mind you during gaming it would probably be less. On that note, your 750w will be fine thumb.gif

I am sure you will have a conclusion after reading real user experince with only single 7970, instead of my personal opinions or link you what people wrote in reviews.

Here are my measurements from the wall with powertune +20% with an overclocked and overvolted 7970:
Idle: 125W
Linpack running: 250W
Linpack + OCCT Error check: 650W

Accounting for my ~90% efficiency that means a single 7970 consumes about 360W at (synthetic) load. rolleyes.gif

Also how did you conclude that youre 7970 uses 360w?

(650W-250W) * 0.9 = 360W

And it was 1.299V with 1320/1790MHz just to see how high it could get, I was shocked. At daily clocks 1250/1750 @1.23 running The Witcher 2 I usually see about 350-400W, so it's not that bad in real use wink.gif

when you run linpack and get 250w some of those watt is also idle 7970, now I know the 7970 is efficient card so It might not be alot of watts.

the OCCT error check is that only utilizing GPU power?

So basicaly that 400w increase is all 7970?

So from idle pc to load 7970 it increased: 400/((1/0.9))= 400/1.111 = 360w increase from idle to load for 7970.

Seems like I won'd be able to have 2x 7970 on AX750 frown.gif

Edit--> I need to look further, stock volts it propably work with 2x 7970 smile.gif

Yeah I think if I OC on stock and have powertune 20% it still handles 2x 7970 and a 125w cpu on AX750.
